The LGBTQ+ Listening Project is hosting a series of story circles to build relationships among trans* folks who live or have lived in southern OR and create more of a sense of community and connection. Given the high level of anti-trans activity happening nationwide\, we want to make space that is nourishing and celebratory. \nWhat is a story circle? A story circle is a group of people sitting in a circle and telling personal stories\, led by a facilitator. We all have stories worth telling and hearing. This is a space to meet each other and celebrate our stories! The themes of the circles will be home\, community\, safety\, transformation and celebration. \n*We are using trans* as a shorthand but this space is inclusive of Two Spirit\, genderqueer\, nonbinary\, etc.\, while recognizing these are separate identities & not all gender diverse people identify as trans. Lies scream\, while truth whispers. Anxiety\, outrage\, grievance and fear are amplified until they turn into outright hatred. \nBut we can use our magical and practical tools to change this\, to drain away the toxicity and amplify truth and compassion. And those same tools can build community and help each one of us stay grounded\, energized and hopeful through troubled times. \nTo use the full range of our tools to shift collective consciousness\, we’ll provide resources for taking practical action—that’s how we ground the magic and intensify its impact. \nJoin Starhawk in a new session of Magical Activism for 2022 as we upgrade our magical toolboxes together\, and learn how to use everything in them!  \nDeep Political Activism\nI’ve always loved Dion Fortune’s definition of magic: “the art of changing consciousness at will.” It’s always seemed to me to be a perfect definition of deep political activism: not just challenging unjust power\, but shifting the consciousness that accepts injustice. \nTo enact this deep work\, we’ll meet live online roughly every three weeks from mid-July through November (schedule below). Each session will focus on an issue relevant to the moment\, and each will incorporate a specific magical skill. You’ll have ‘homework’—ways to continue the magic between sessions. \nWith crucial midterm elections coming up for the United States in November\, our work will have a U.S. focus—but the tools and skills will be relevant wherever you are. \nWhile we’ll respond to the events of the moment\, here are some of the issues we are likely to cover: \n\n\n\nDefending Democracy\nReproductive Rights and Gender Justice\nRacial Justice\nClimate Change\nCountering Disinformation\nElection magic\nPeace\n\n\n\n  \nHow Magical Activism Works\nThis is a 4-month series that runs between July 2022-November 2022. It’s a live\, cohort-based course which means it centers on our live rituals hosted on Zoom on Wednesdays roughly every 3 weeks. It also means that everyone in the course is joining in live too\, and learning and working together and organizing on the same timeline. \nEach session will focus on a different activist cause. We will do a ritual to add magic to the cause\, then commit to taking solid action towards that cause. \nOnce you register (by donation)\, you’ll be invited via email to our private online learning community where you will be able to access upcoming live links and past recordings\, connect with other magical activists between sessions\, share ideas\, respectfully debate\, and organize. \nEach session includes: a live (or recorded live) ritual teaching session\, some deep personal and community healing work within a ritual framework\, and suggested personal practices (“homework”) to take action in the weeks between sessions. \nEach session will be recorded\, so if you miss one\, you can watch at your leisure. DESCRIPTION:KS Wild invites you to their 5th Annual Eight Dollar Mountain Stewardship Event. \nThis event aims to help repair damage and protect the botanical diversity in this rare serpentine landscape on Memorial Day weekend. The group will be working together with the Forest Service in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest\, Wild Rivers District. They will offer a short talk about safety and botanical significance. We will then split into work groups (if needed) and begin restoration projects. Expect low to moderate intensity hiking\, digging and lifting. We will be cleaning up the botanical kiosk sign\, repairing buck and rail fencing\, signage installation and repairs as needed\, cleaning up trash and doing a photo assessment and GPS documentation of all signages and areas of concern. \nPort-o-Potties\, water and snacks will be available during the day. Trained de-escalators can provide support to events and demonstrations in our region to help keep all members of our community safe in the face of growing right wing/white supremacist threats.

We’re holding a de-escalation training over two evenings this month–Thursdays\, January 20th & 27th from 5:30-7:30pm–for folks interested in plugging into this work and learning more about de-escalation. DESCRIPTION:The 2021 Oregon legislative session is well underway. By the end of April\, we will be able to see which proposals are moving forward and which are being thwarted or modified.  Meanwhile\, agency efforts to develop the Oregon Climate Action Plan (OCAP) resulting from Governor Brown’s March 2020 Executive Order 20-04 are underway and have been afforded a mid-course evaluation by the coalition. \nThe April SOCAN General Meeting will be dedicated to a summary of Oregon legislative and OCAP updates.  If their legislative schedules permit\, Representative Pam Marsh and Senator Jeff Golden have agreed to join to offer their perspective from their respective chambers and committees. \nSOCAN meets monthly on the last Tuesday via Zoom with speakers on Topics related to climate change.\nThese meetings are free and open to the public

SUMMARY:Cuba – The Threat  of a Good Example.
DESCRIPTION:.According to the World Wildlife Fund’s Sustainable Development Index\, the island of Cuba is the only country in the world with a sustainable model of development. \nIn the last year it has had one of the lowest incidences of COVID-19 and has sent thousands of medical personnel around the world to help other countries. \nWhile many people around the world applaud this good example the US government has for 60 years tried to destroy it via a crippling economic blockade.
