DESCRIPTION:KS Wild invites you to their 5th Annual Eight Dollar Mountain Stewardship Event. \nThis event aims to help repair damage and protect the botanical diversity in this rare serpentine landscape on Memorial Day weekend. The group will be working together with the Forest Service in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest\, Wild Rivers District. They will offer a short talk about safety and botanical significance. We will then split into work groups (if needed) and begin restoration projects. Expect low to moderate intensity hiking\, digging and lifting. We will be cleaning up the botanical kiosk sign\, repairing buck and rail fencing\, signage installation and repairs as needed\, cleaning up trash and doing a photo assessment and GPS documentation of all signages and areas of concern. \nPort-o-Potties\, water and snacks will be available during the day. We look forward to working along side you to encourage the responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices! DESCRIPTION:For their April Zoom meeting\, Deconstructing Whiteness will focus on the topic Pioneers as Celebrated Figures: What are the Stories We Tell Ourselves? \nFrom Deconstructing Whiteness: \n“As we contemplate sayings such as “the last American frontier”\, “pioneers had it rough and persevered”\, “pioneers made something of this land\, they foraged\, and shaped it from nothing”\, “the founders of the U.S. were great men”\, “how the american west was won”\, “let’s play cowboys and indians”\, “last person on the totem pole”\, etc……let’s look at deconstructing these white colonists’ phrases. \nWhen we think about Euro-American settlers/colonizers and the way they have been romanticized for future generations\, we ponder this for at least two reasons: \n1) Why past and current white generations did and still continue this practice to this day\, and\n2) What keeps us believing in the white-centered\, brainwashed stories? \nWhat stories have we told ourselves\, as a people\, that live in us as “truth?” With some research\, we find they [stories as truth] are not based in fact. DESCRIPTION:Rogue Action Center will facilitate a free de-escalation training tin two parts: January 20 and 27th from  5:30 – 7:30 pm on Zoom. \n“The RAC facilitates de-escalation training for community members to support local movements for social justice\, and coordinates a volunteer team of de-escalators which helps de-escalate conflicts\, potential violence and minimize disruptions from those who oppose movements for justice. Trained de-escalators can provide support to events and demonstrations in our region to help keep all members of our community safe in the face of growing right wing/white supremacist threats.

We’re holding a de-escalation training over two evenings this month–Thursdays\, January 20th & 27th from 5:30-7:30pm–for folks interested in plugging into this work and learning more about de-escalation. Are you having trouble communicating with your lawyer about your political principles\, legal goals\, or personal priorities? Or\, are you an attorney representing activists and unsure of how to work with them? \nJoin us for a presentation from the Tilted Scales Collective on key points from their new book\, Representing Radicals\, with additional insight from Lauren Regan\, executive director of the Civil Liberties Defense Center (CLDC). \nRepresenting Radicals helps lawyers understand ways to work with radical defendants\, with an explicit focus on how to help them achieve ends that go beyond traditional legal goals. The book can be a useful bridge for radicals when they are working alongside a legal team. In this presentation\, they will explore what it means to take a movement perspective when handling criminal charges and how defendants and lawyers can work in partnership to the benefit of movements. \nRepresenting Radicals is a follow-up to the Tilted Scales Collective’s first book\, A Tilted Guide to Being a Defendant. \nThe Tilted Scales Collective works with radical defendants and movement lawyers to fight state repression. They are anarchist legal workers who have spent years organizing in solidarity with defendants fighting their charges and with prisoners fighting for their dignity and lives. Their organizing has included being part of defense committees for defendants facing state repression\, conducting webinars and trainings for groups of defendants\, and collaborating with other groups to engage the criminal legal system in ways that can advance radical struggles. DESCRIPTION:The 2021 Oregon legislative session is well underway. By the end of April\, we will be able to see which proposals are moving forward and which are being thwarted or modified.  Meanwhile\, agency efforts to develop the Oregon Climate Action Plan (OCAP) resulting from Governor Brown’s March 2020 Executive Order 20-04 are underway and have been afforded a mid-course evaluation by the coalition. \nThe April SOCAN General Meeting will be dedicated to a summary of Oregon legislative and OCAP updates.  If their legislative schedules permit\, Representative Pam Marsh and Senator Jeff Golden have agreed to join to offer their perspective from their respective chambers and committees. \nSOCAN meets monthly on the last Tuesday via Zoom with speakers on Topics related to climate change.\nThese meetings are free and open to the public

DESCRIPTION:.According to the World Wildlife Fund’s Sustainable Development Index\, the island of Cuba is the only country in the world with a sustainable model of development. \nIn the last year it has had one of the lowest incidences of COVID-19 and has sent thousands of medical personnel around the world to help other countries. \nWhile many people around the world applaud this good example the US government has for 60 years tried to destroy it via a crippling economic blockade.
