Southern Oregon Housing for All (SOHFA)\, a local organization of volunteers\, advocates\, and unhoused Ashlanders invites the community to a welcoming and inclusive conversation focused on setting priorities to solve gaps in our homeless services. \nThe conversation will be held Thursday\, October 3\, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Gresham Room at the Ashland Public Library. \nThe City of Ashland commissioned a Homeless Master Plan this year that identified action steps to further the goal of finding housing solutions for all. “It’s time to take some of those steps\,” said Rich Rohde\, a SOHFA member. “What can we do right now? DESCRIPTION:Environmental activist Alex Haraus and cinematographers Aidan Kranz and Elena Jean spent the last year exploring some of the last remaining ancient forests on public lands in the US. These mature and old-growth forests offer one of our best natural defenses against the impacts of climate change. But these carbon-storing powerhouses are so much more than that. \nAs the film crew travels across America exploring our different old-growth forests\, they learn more about the value that these ancient ecosystems have for the communities that depend on them. We learn that looming threats like logging\, development\, wildfires and invasive species would devastate these landscapes. These forests could be lost forever unless we can demonstrate widespread support for protecting them. This year\, the public has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to forever change the way our government manages our federal public lands. Through local advocates and grassroots storytelling\, the film makes a case for protecting mature and old-growth forests across the federal estate and shows how the audience can help.

For 30 years\, the Northwest Forest Plan (NWFP) has guided forest management across the PNW on federal lands. This will be the first amendment to the NWFP in 30 years\, and presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish better protections for mature and old growth forests\, meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities and a fighting chance at mitigating the climate crisis. \nAmong the key issues the Forest Service needs to address in the updated Forest Plan are tribal inclusion & fire stewardship and the protection of mature & old growth forests. DESCRIPTION:You are invited to tea and conversation with Hiroshima atom bomb survivor\, author and activist Hideko Tamura Snider from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday\, Sept. 4\, at Peace House\, 543 S Mountain Ave\, Ashland\, OR 97520. \nThis intimate gathering honoring Hideko – sponsored by Southern Oregon Pachamama Alliance\, Peace House and One Sunny Day Initiatives (OSDI) – provides a perfect opportunity to talk with one of the region’s most dedicated activists whose life work has been devoted to promoting peace and a world free of nuclear weapons. Hideko’s life story\, told in her book One Sunny Day\, is one of courage and perseverance and serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing threat of nuclear warfare. Hideko will share stories from her memoir and welcome questions from attendees. \nBoth Hideko’s memoir One Sunny Day and her picture book written for children\, When a Peace Tree Blooms\, will be available to purchase that day; and she will be signing books upon request after speaking to the group. Her books are also available locally at Bloomsbury Books in Ashland\, and Barnes & Noble in Medford. \nWhen a Peace Tree Blooms\, illustrated in soft watercolors by Japanese artist Mari Kishi\, tells the story of a young child meeting an elderly couple planting special seeds. DESCRIPTION:In November 2020\, Oregon voters overwhelmingly passed Ballot Measure 110\, which reclassified possession/penalties for specified drugs including heroin\, methamphetamine and others. \nThis year the measure was significantly amended by Oregon House Bill 4002\, which repealed the drug decriminalization portion in response to public backlash. \nRep. Pam Marsh\, Oregon House of Representatives\, District 5; and Kerri Hecox\, M.D.\, MPH\, Medical Director and founder of the Oasis Center of the Rogue Valley in Medford\, will discuss exactly what happened with Measure 110\, the changes brought about by HB 4002\, and new the deflection programs in place. Plus\, they will cover what 110 funded in the Rogue Valley and the ongoing gaps\, barriers and needs in our addiction system. \nPart of the “Big Ideas” series\, this program is presented by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Ashland Branch and Jackson County Library Services.

They are fluid and impermanent. All ten are existential realities with their own moods\, characteristics and inquiries. DESCRIPTION:KSKQ Community Radio and the Ashland Community Peace Meal invite the community to a summer music folk and rock festival on August 9th at the Lithia Park Bandshell starting at 6 pm. \nBroadway Phil and the Shouters will open the festival with get-on-your-feet rock and roll. From Jacksonville\, Oregon\, Broadway Phil and the Shouters have been rocking concerts and clubs for over twenty years\, drawing on the influence of Blues\, R&B\, Tex-Mex and Roots Rock. David Rovics and Kamala Emanuel will perform at 7 pm with socially conscious folk music. \nRovics and Emanual and will be singing songs of solidarity and social significance. They are in the first stages of their Minister of Culture world tour. Pre-performance music will begin at 5 pm following the Community Peace Meal. Local musicians will entertain the crowd prior to Broadway Phils performance at 6 pm. \nThe performances are free of charge. The rulers…are unmasking themselves.” – Daniel Ortega\, 30 April 2024 \nOn 19 July\, as Nicaragua celebrates the 45th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution\, a reconfiguration of global power is playing out as rage escalates internationally at the genocide being committed in Gaza with arms and political support from the US\, UK\, EU and other allies. \nIn this emerging multipolar world\, voices of the South are being raised as one against US efforts to dominate and force other countries to follow its will. \nProgressive governments across Latin America and Africa are united in their condemnation of US efforts to flout international law and to impose illegal coercive measures (sanctions) on countries who fail to submit to their control. \nThis meeting will celebrate Nicaragua’s achievements and look at the country’s support for Palestine in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). He was ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church – USA in 1978 and in 2002 became the first Arab-American to lead a major U.S. denomination. \nHe has a BA from Southeastern University\, a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary\, and a Doctor of Divinity from the McCormick Theological Seminary. He has served the Presbyterian Church in numerous executive capacities including: Moderator of its 214th General Assembly\, General Assembly Commissioner\, board member of the National Middle Eastern Ministries Committee\, and member of the Outreach\, Christian Education\, and Peacemaking Committees of the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta.
