SUMMARY:Beyondananda and Beyond Stand Up With Swami\, Sit Down With Steve
DESCRIPTION:At a time when we are divided by the beliefs in our head\, here’s a chance to unite around the love in our hearts!\nAnd the best way to do that is through hearty laughter.\nSo you are invited to join us for an evening of cosmic comedy featuring Swami Beyondananda and his slightly-more-serious alter ego Steve Bhaerman.\nSet One: Stand Up With Swami … In these serious times – where there’s definitely something funny going on – laughter keeps us sane. This heart-opening\, mind-expanding\, funny and insightful comedy set will help you wake up laughing — and provide plenty of “aha’s” in the wake of the ha-ha’s. Oh\, and as part of the program the Swami will answer your questions … and you will question his answers. \nSet Two: Sit Down With Steve Bhaerman … Swami’s alter ego Steve Bhaerman\, in addition to being a funny guy in his own right\, has also authored a “serious” book with cellular biologist Bruce Lipton. Spontaneous Evolution: Our Positive Future and a Way to Get There From Here\, has been translated into 26 languages\, and has been called “world-changing” by both Deepak Chopra and political commentator Thom Hartmann. \nIn this “sit down” with Steve Bhaerman\, Steve explores how we use levity to “defy gravity” in these seriously unfunny times\, and how humor itself can be a tool for evolutionary transformation. You’ll laugh while you learn\, and learn while you laugh.

SUMMARY:SOCAN’s Ashland CEAP Workshop Series Continues with a session on Compost
DESCRIPTION:In 2017\, the Ashland City Council passed a citizen led policy called the Climate and Energy Action Plan (CEAP). The goals of the plan were to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions and prepare the city to be more resilient to climate change impacts. As the Ashland Climate Collaborative notes on their website: “Eight years in\, the CEAP is still a great foundation for reaching our climate goals.” Over the intervening years\, residential awareness of the CEAP has decreased. In order to reverse that trend\, Southern Oregon Climate Action Now Executive Director Danial Scotton\, has facilitated a series of open public workshops during which aspects of the CEAP are discussed in relation to CEAP goals\, the current status of action\, and what needs to be done. \nThis is thee third workshop in the series will address the subject of Food Waste and Compost. This will be held in the Gresham Room of Ashland Public Library.

SUMMARY:Southern Oregon Wildfire Risk: The Climate Connection
DESCRIPTION:Fire and smoke have become an annual source of concern for Oregonians\, especially for those of us living in the Southwest. As wildfire trends become increasingly obvious\, questions about their drivers become more urgent. Yet\, many factors affect wildfire behavior and impact: forest management\, disruptions to fire’s natural role\, patterns of development\, and\, importantly\, changes to the climate.
What do we know about how wildfires are changing\, the causes\, and options for climate adaptation?

Dr. Chris Adlam\, Southwest Regional Fire Specialist with the Oregon State University Extension Service\, Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center\, will be the featured speaker at the August Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) monthly general meeting. Adlam will discuss how climate is influencing fire risk in the region\, what climate projections portend for our future\, and what steps we can take to minimize the risk. There is no charge for attending SOCAN events.

SUMMARY:Film: "On Paper Wings"
DESCRIPTION:In the spring of 1945\, a Japanese balloon bomb claimed the lives of the only people killed on the continental U.S. as the result of enemy action during WWII. Forty years later\, the decision to fold a thousand paper cranes would unite the Japanese and American civilians who were involved in and affected by this incident. Join us for a film screening of On Paper Wings\, which tells the story of four Japanese women who worked on balloon bombs\, the families of those killed in the U.S.\, and the man whose actions brought them all together 40 years after WWII. \nThe film is being shown in Calvin Hall at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland at the corner of Walker & Siskiyou.
