DESCRIPTION:On March 20\, 2023\, Yuval Dag refused his military conscription and was sent by an Israeli military court to prison. \nAfter growing up with a nationalist identity\, Yuval began to question his privilege and how it was maintained through the oppression of Palestinians. “Resistance begins\, first of all\, with self-reflection and understanding. With the understanding that by wearing a uniform and symbols of a certain body\, you choose to represent that body. With the understanding that enlisting in the army is a political choice\, and its meaning is to support the military and political agenda\, and to take part in it. The understanding that even a small cog contributes to the system’s function.” \nYuval decided that he could not in good conscientious accept his military conscription. We face the continuing challenge to break through the fog of war propaganda and indifference to effectively challenge the abstractions and evasions that undergird the warfare state here at home. \nOn April 2nd\, the RootsAction Education Fund\, working with the Oregon organizations listed below\, is offering a live online presentation – “Make War Visible … and End It” – to antiwar and social justice activists. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, February 18 at noon PST\, Voices from the Holy Land will host its February Gathering Voices Conversation with four speakers and short films. \nThe four short videos reveal what it’s like for Palestinians to live under occupation\, hosted by Voices from the Holy Land\, moderated by FOR’s Ariel Gold \nWhen: Sunday\, February 18\, 2024 at 3:00 pm ET/ 12 noon PT. \nWhere: online \nWatch the films for free at your convenience; then join the Q&A Discussion with: \n\nMichael Lynk:  Associate Professor of Law at Western University\, former UNHCR Special Rapporteur for Palestinian territories\nOmar Haramy:  Director of Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center in Jerusalem\nTariq Hathaleen:  Palestinian activist in the South Hebron Hills and English teacher\nAriel Gold (moderator):  Executive Director\, Fellowship of Reconciliation-USA\n\nWith the world’s attention focused on Israel’s “War on Gaza” it is easy to overlook increased Israeli military actions and growing settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.  More than 700\,000 Israeli settlers live in 279 illegal settlements across the occupied West Bank\, including 14 in the occupied East Jerusalem.  Since October 7\, 2023\, Israeli military and settler attacks have killed more than 320 Palestinians.
