SUMMARY:From President’s Day to July 4th: A Talk and Community Brainstorm
DESCRIPTION:This July 4th will be the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence\, and we’re expecting an escalation in fascist rhetoric and pressure to narrowly define citizenship and patriotism. How can we find ways to push back on this culture of authoritarianism in the lead-up to July 4th? How do we honor our democratic ideals while recognizing the long history of harm in the U.S? What are alternative ways we can observe our interdependence and love of the land on July 4th? \nOne-part presentation\, one-part community brainstorming of ways to collectively observe July 4th this year.

SUMMARY:POSTPONED — Economic Noncooperation and ICE: A Workshop and Strategy Session
DESCRIPTION:Note: We are postponing this session to be in solidarity with the Day Without an Immigrant Action taking place in Medford! We will be rescheduling soon. If you’d like to get registration info for the next time\, send an email to meg@peacehouse.net. \nBoycotts\, strikes\, tax resistance — these are just a few of the nonviolent noncooperation tactics movements have used around the world to disrupt authoritarian forces. We’ll break down the mechanics of these tactics and look at how they might be deployed against the violent excesses of ICE in our current moment. \nIn this workshop we’ll share stories from global movements\, review concepts like the pillars of support and basics of campaign strategy\, then dig into creative campaign design ourselves to see what actions we might take together here in Oregon. \nWorkshop space is limited. To try and build a group bringing diverse viewpoints and experience levels\, we are asking folks to fill out an application to participate. We’ll begin sending out acceptances on a rolling basis starting February 5th. APPLY HERE \nWhether you’re attending or just interested in sponsoring this kind of work\, please consider supporting this workshop with a donation to Peace House. \nQuestions? Reach out to Meg: meg@peacehouse.net. \nThis event is part of our Justice is Love in Public weekend. SUMMARY:Hear 'The Power of Song'
DESCRIPTION:You can hear The Power of Song when four choirs from across the state come together this season to sing for peace\, social justice and the Earth. \n“While we’ve all heard that the pen is mightier than the sword\, we singers in our choral community also know that the power of ideas\, of hope\, is amplified and enhanced by the music that make songs\,” says Rogue Valley Peace Choir Director (RVPC) Rob Griswell-Lowry. \n“We sing together to commingle in shared hope. When we share our song with our neighbors\, others hear their own story and find their hope. As the poet Sharon Cooper wrote\, ‘This is choir: not a stage to impress\, but a circle of breath – a place where voices become one body\, and love finds its sound.’” \nThe concert features Eugene Peace Choir\, In Accord Community Choir\, Portland Peace Choir\, and Rogue Valley Peace Choir . The choirs will perform individually and then all four choirs will perform together for a rousing hope-filled finale. \nThis is the first time the choirs have come together since before Covid closures. The last joint choir concert hosted by RVPC in Ashland in 2018 filled the SOU recital hall\, so plan to arrive early. A suggested donation of $20 is gratefully accepted\, but not required. \nThis event is partially funded through Ashland Lodging tax revenue. Business and individual sponsors are also welcome. To help sponsor this event\, contact David Teegarden.

SUMMARY:Noncooperation 101
DESCRIPTION:Words like authoritarianism\, fascism\, and autocracy are all being thrown around a lot these days. How does this moment in the U.S. compare to authoritarian take-overs in other places? We’ll share about the current authoritarian threat\, then share stories of noncooperation and how nonviolent noncooperation has been used to push back against anti-democratic forces. \nCo-led by Meg Wade\, Director of Peace House\, and Trina Stout\, Organizer & Trainer. \nOpen to all\, no registration required. Please consider supporting programming like this with a donation. \nIf you’re already familiar with the authoritarian playbook\, pillars of support\, and noncooperation more broadly\, and want a deeper dive\, see our workshop on Monday\, February 16th\, where we’ll dig into economic noncooperation campaigns against ICE.

SUMMARY:Rally: Make Polluters Pay!
DESCRIPTION:Join the Rogue Climate volunteer team to take action launching the Make Polluters Pay Campaign to pass Oregon Climate Resilience Superfund Bill and call community members in the Rogue Valley to action. It’s time that big fossil fuel corporations pay for their pollution and that Oregonians stop bearing the burden of climate clean up! Youth and community members across the Rogue Valley are coming together to show Oregon’s leaders it’s time to Make Polluters Pay and pass the Climate Resilience Superfund bill. \nOn Saturday\, January 31st\, we will gather together for an intergenerational rally to officially launch the Make Polluters Pay campaign. We will gather outside at Vogel Plaza rain or shine. There will be coffee\, tea and snacks provided. Dress warmly! \nWe will be taking action with thousands across the country for the national Make Polluters Pay Week of Action January 26-30. Just the day before\, youth will be leading walkouts at 5 high schools in the Rogue Valley! If you are a Rogue Valley high school student\, reach out to jesus@rogueclimate.org to join a walkout. \nOregon’s Short Legislative Session begins the following week. This is a key moment to let our elected officials know – Oregonians are sick of paying for the climate disasters caused by Big Oil. It’s time for the fossil fuel industry to pay their fair share for fires\, floods and a more resilient future for all of us. Pass the Climate Resilience Superfund bill in Oregon. \nPlease reach out to susie@rogueclimate.org with any questions\, or if you would like to volunteer.
