SUMMARY:“Welcome to New Orleans” Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Bear Creek Social Center in Talent is hosting a film screening of “Welcome to New Orleans.” The film documents on-the-ground mutual aid efforts led by the Common Ground collective in New Orleans in the wake of the devastating destruction and flooding brought by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. \nCommon Ground\, a mutual aid collective led by former Black Panther Malik Rahim and others\, organized in the Algiers and Lower 9th ward neighborhoods and helped popularize concepts like “mutual aid” and “solidarity\, not charity.” \nFollowing the screening\, we’ll hear directly from local community members who were a part of the original Common Ground collective. Come learn the history of Common Ground\, and how local community organizers who were in New Orleans 20 years ago approached “mutual aid” and disaster relief organizing in the wake of the 2020 Almeda and Obenchain fires\, and today. \nThis is a free event. Donations for Bear Creek Social Center are welcome. \nPlease carpool\, and parking in a nearby empty lot if possible. Bear Creek Social Center is in Talent\, next to Crown Market.

SUMMARY:SOCAN’s Ashland CEAP Workshop Series Continues with a session on Compost
DESCRIPTION:In 2017\, the Ashland City Council passed a citizen led policy called the Climate and Energy Action Plan (CEAP). The goals of the plan were to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions and prepare the city to be more resilient to climate change impacts. As the Ashland Climate Collaborative notes on their website: “Eight years in\, the CEAP is still a great foundation for reaching our climate goals.” Over the intervening years\, residential awareness of the CEAP has decreased. In order to reverse that trend\, Southern Oregon Climate Action Now Executive Director Danial Scotton\, has facilitated a series of open public workshops during which aspects of the CEAP are discussed in relation to CEAP goals\, the current status of action\, and what needs to be done. \nThis is thee third workshop in the series will address the subject of Food Waste and Compost. This will be held in the Gresham Room of Ashland Public Library.

DESCRIPTION:Southern Oregon Pachamama Alliance (SOPA) is hosting a Fall Equinox ceremony near the upper duck pond at Lithia Park in Ashland. Parking is available off Winburn Way\, just north of the Granite Street intersection. SOPA’S Solstice and Equinox ceremonies\, led by Louise Paré\, are centered around gratitude while gently reflecting on themes related to the season\, recent events or the state of our world at this time. This month\, the theme will be Listening to the Earth. Attendees are invited to speak from their hearts or to simply be in silence in community with others. SOPA began hosting Solstice and Equinox ceremonies beginning with the Winter Solstice in 2012.
