SUMMARY:Beyondananda and Beyond Stand Up With Swami\, Sit Down With Steve
DESCRIPTION:At a time when we are divided by the beliefs in our head\, here’s a chance to unite around the love in our hearts!\nAnd the best way to do that is through hearty laughter.\nSo you are invited to join us for an evening of cosmic comedy featuring Swami Beyondananda and his slightly-more-serious alter ego Steve Bhaerman.\nSet One: Stand Up With Swami … In these serious times – where there’s definitely something funny going on – laughter keeps us sane. This heart-opening\, mind-expanding\, funny and insightful comedy set will help you wake up laughing — and provide plenty of “aha’s” in the wake of the ha-ha’s. Oh\, and as part of the program the Swami will answer your questions … and you will question his answers. \nSet Two: Sit Down With Steve Bhaerman … Swami’s alter ego Steve Bhaerman\, in addition to being a funny guy in his own right\, has also authored a “serious” book with cellular biologist Bruce Lipton. Spontaneous Evolution: Our Positive Future and a Way to Get There From Here\, has been translated into 26 languages\, and has been called “world-changing” by both Deepak Chopra and political commentator Thom Hartmann. \nIn this “sit down” with Steve Bhaerman\, Steve explores how we use levity to “defy gravity” in these seriously unfunny times\, and how humor itself can be a tool for evolutionary transformation. You’ll laugh while you learn\, and learn while you laugh.

SUMMARY:Oregon Citizens’ Utility Board Speaks in Medford
DESCRIPTION:The Oregon Citizens’ Utility Board (CUB) members are the featured speakers at this month’s Southern Oregon Climate Action Now (SOCAN) general meeting. \nFor four decades\, CUB has been Oregon’s leading ratepayer advocate\, ensuring that households and small businesses are represented in utility decisions. In 2025\, their work has delivered tangible wins: protecting customers from unnecessary rate hikes\, pushing utilities to accelerate clean energy investments\, and holding regulators accountable to Oregon’s climate goals. Their victories this year highlight the power of community advocacy in shaping a more affordable\, reliable\, and sustainable energy future for all Oregonians. \nThere is no charge for attending SOCAN events.

SUMMARY:“Welcome to New Orleans” Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Bear Creek Social Center in Talent is hosting a film screening of “Welcome to New Orleans.” The film documents on-the-ground mutual aid efforts led by the Common Ground collective in New Orleans in the wake of the devastating destruction and flooding brought by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. \nCommon Ground\, a mutual aid collective led by former Black Panther Malik Rahim and others\, organized in the Algiers and Lower 9th ward neighborhoods and helped popularize concepts like “mutual aid” and “solidarity\, not charity.” \nFollowing the screening\, we’ll hear directly from local community members who were a part of the original Common Ground collective. Come learn the history of Common Ground\, and how local community organizers who were in New Orleans 20 years ago approached “mutual aid” and disaster relief organizing in the wake of the 2020 Almeda and Obenchain fires\, and today. \nThis is a free event. Donations for Bear Creek Social Center are welcome. \nPlease carpool\, and parking in a nearby empty lot if possible. Bear Creek Social Center is in Talent\, next to Crown Market.

SUMMARY:SOCAN’s Ashland CEAP Workshop Series Continues with a session on Compost
DESCRIPTION:In 2017\, the Ashland City Council passed a citizen led policy called the Climate and Energy Action Plan (CEAP). The goals of the plan were to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions and prepare the city to be more resilient to climate change impacts. As the Ashland Climate Collaborative notes on their website: “Eight years in\, the CEAP is still a great foundation for reaching our climate goals.” Over the intervening years\, residential awareness of the CEAP has decreased. In order to reverse that trend\, Southern Oregon Climate Action Now Executive Director Danial Scotton\, has facilitated a series of open public workshops during which aspects of the CEAP are discussed in relation to CEAP goals\, the current status of action\, and what needs to be done. \nThis is thee third workshop in the series will address the subject of Food Waste and Compost. This will be held in the Gresham Room of Ashland Public Library.

You can track its progress for yourself at globalsumudflotilla.org/tracker/ \nTuesday\, September 16th\, at 6:30 p.m. South Mountain Friends Meeting (Quakers) and Peace House are gathering to witness the voyage of the flotilla at Peace House\, 543 S. Mountain Ave. in Ashland. We’ll watch short videos sent from the ships and\, if the flotilla has made contact with the Israeli blockade\, any footage of what happened. The Global Sumud Flotilla has already faced multiple attacks\, including a drone attack while docked at Tunis. \nWhile we hope we will be watching footage of the flotilla’s successful arrival and distribution of aid in Gaza\, anything is possible in the coming days. Past flotillas have been boarded illegally in international waters by Israeli forces\, with their crews arrested and cargo confiscated. In 2010\, when Israeli naval commanders from speedboats and helicopters boarded the Mavi Marmara\, ten aid activists were killed and ten Israeli servicemen were wounded. \nCome witness the bravery of the crews determined to bring necessary aid to Palestinians and connect with others concerned and ready to take action to challenge the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
