Peace House has been participating in the Freedom Trainer network and we recommend these sessions! \nJoin Hold the Line and Freedom Trainers for a 90 minute online election defense workshop to learn about the authoritarian election playbook\, responses from the U.S. and around the globe that have worked\, and strategies every day people can use to safeguard our democracy. The current power holders want to stay in power\, so they are rewriting the rules: Courts have gutted key parts of the Voting Rights Act\, weakening protections for Black voters. They are deploying more federal election observers than ever before. Federal agencies have raided and investigated nonpartisan voting organizations to make an example of them. And eligible voters keep hearing that they can’t vote — or that it won’t matter anyway. Existing election protection playbooks weren’t built for all of these challenges. Meeting them will take planning\, creativity\, and most of all\, each other. In this workshop you’ll learn: 1. How the authoritarian election playbook works\, and how to spot it early 2. DESCRIPTION:Since our establishment in 2012\, Southern Oregon Climate Action Now has organized at least one candidate forum on climate and environment topics during each election cycle. 2026 is no different. This cycle\, our forum is scheduled for Tuesday October 13th at Medford Public Library from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The format will incorporate questions from the SOCAN Forum Team and from the audience. The 90-minute forum will be followed by an informal 30-minute ‘meet and greet’ where constituents can ask further questions of the candidates.\nDuring the forum\, Oregon Legislature candidates will be queried on their attitude to: stimulating GHG emissions reductions in Oregon\, data centers\, maintaining an adequate water supply\, and meeting the needs of the transportation budget. Meanwhile\, Jackson County Board of Commissioner candidates will be queried on their attitudes to promoting adaptation in the county to the threats from climate trends\, promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy in the county\, the efficacy of maintaining and seeking advice from citizen advisory committees\, addressing the forthcoming water shortage in the county. To provide time for them to develop responses\, SOCAN questions will be circulated to candidates two weeks ahead of the event. Audience questions will be submitted in writing before the program opens.\nAll candidates for Oregon House District 5 and 6\, Senate District 3 and Board of Commissioner Positions 1 and 3 were invited via contact to the email addresses and snail-mail addresses they submitted when filing their candidacy. Candidates who have accepted our invitation are\, HD5 Representative Pam Marsh\, House District 6 candidate Johnn Holm\, Senate district 3 candidates Clay Bearnson and Denise Krause\, Board of Commission Position 1 candidate Lyndi Reichenbach\, Position 3 candidate Isabella Lee Tibbetts. DESCRIPTION:Southern Oregon Food Solutions will host a screening of the documentary “Common Ground” at the end of Food Waste Prevention Week (FWPW) on October 4th at 3pm at Ashland Bellview Grange on 1050 Tolman Creek Road. \nCommon Ground profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white\, black\, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate\, save our health\, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late. Common Ground is ”a love letter to our children… and a blueprint for securing our future” according to its featured narrator\, Woody Harrelson. \nSouthern Oregon Food Solutions (SOFS) is joining more than 500 partners across the country to support Food Waste Prevention Week September 28 – October 4\, 2026\, which is a week-long on-line and in-person awareness campaign to inspire cultural changes that reduce food waste at home\, work and in our communities. \nReducing wasted food matters and together we can save money\, conserve resources and improve food access for all. Wasted food is a problem we can solve. Each one of us has the potential to personally affect how much food goes unused.

No deposit necessary.\nNote: lunch is not included. \nHow do the 9 Enneagram Types react and respond to the stresses and strains of daily life\, including those generated by the difficult political\, cultural and environmental times we are all going through in 2026? What are the differences between bad stress (distress) and good stress (eustress)\, according to the pioneering work of Hans Selye\, and his theory of the General Adaption Syndrome? What are the five primary stress mechanisms that the human body-mind naturally activates when facing a perceived threat: fight\, flight\, freeze\, fawn and flop? Finally\, what are the salient differences between stress and trauma? Inquiring minds and hearts want to know!\nEnneagram theory says that each of the 9 Types has a Basic Fear\, Basic Desire and a Defense Mechanism built into their psychic structure\, as well as habitual emotional\, mental and physical patterns of behavior\, all of which tend to become automatically activated with significant stress. In addition\, each Type has an associated Passion or Vice that gets quickly triggered (Anger\, Pride\, Vanity\, Envy\, Avarice\, Fear\, Gluttony\, Lust and Sloth)\, as well as corresponding Ego Ideals and Avoidances. In short\, “we go on automatic\,” and get triggered into stress reactions in characteristic and highly predictable ways. We will pay special attention to the dynamic movements along the Inner Lines according to Type. How do our characteristic traits and behaviors change under conditions of stress and security? All of this is important because when we are chronically stressed it becomes harder to access\, embody and express the spiritual or depth dimension of the Enneagram and our own Type\, with its corresponding Virtues\, Holy Ideas\, Healthy Instincts and Essential Qualities.\nThe good news is with targeted self-observation leading to increased self-awareness\, a good understanding of Type structure and relevant psychodynamics\, and Enneagram-related spiritual practices\, these patterns can be examined and changed. Each Type can learn to relax through his or her personal reactivity in order to gain access to Type-specific psychological capacities\, behavioral modifications and spiritual gifts. These can become powerful coping strategies in the short term\, and methods of psychological growth and spiritual development in the long term. Importantly\, we can also gain insights about\, and develop compassionate understanding of\, the strength and challenges of the other 8 Types. This helps build bridges of understanding between individuals and within communities\, which in turn can prevent and/or reduce stress levels before they become unmanageable and cause a range of health problems. The ultimate goal is to both manage and recover from stress\, and\, if possible\, prevent it from occurring in the first place.\nThis workshop includes guided meditations\, teachings\, handouts\, breakout groups\, time for class discussion\, Q & C and\, if there are willing participants\, one or two short Type Panels. This workshop is mostly on an intermediate level (although beginners are certainly welcome!)\, and assumes that participants already know their own dominant Type. I will probably not have much time in a group setting to help participants find and explore their own Type. Therefore\, it would be useful for beginners to do some advance research on the 9 Types and try to discover their place on the sacred symbol before joining us.
