DESCRIPTION:Rogue Action Center and Rogue Climate have another internship coming up this summer! If you or someone you know might be interested in organizing for climate and social justice\, and making an impact in your community please apply at this link by Monday\, June 9. \nThe internship is open to BIPOC youth between the ages of 14-30 who live in the Rogue Valley. Participants will develop their leadership and community organizing skills by attending weekly trainings and engaging in local climate and social justice campaigns. Trainings will include Intro to Organizing; Climate Justice; Power\, Privilege and Oppression; Campaign Planning; and more. \nThroughout the internship\, youth will get hands-on experience with community organizing by working on a campaign or project with Rogue Action Center or Rogue Climate. Projects may include taking action for social and climate justice. The internship is 3-5 hours per week and spans 9 weeks between July 3 through August 28\, 2025. Participants will receive a $500 stipend at the end of the internship. \nApplications are accepted on a rolling basis\, with a final deadline of June 9th\, 2025. DESCRIPTION:ORD2 Indivisible is planning a protest at Rogue County International Airport\, Medford\, to tell Avelo Airlines: “Stop helping ICE deport our neighbors.” There will be demonstrations at every airport Avelo serves to call for a passenger boycott until Avelo breaks with ICE. \nAvelo\, a budget carrier\, recently announced a contract to begin operating deportation flights for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement starting May 12. Avelo flies between Medford and Burbank\, Calif.\, every Monday and Friday. \nThe location will be Biddle Road near the entrance and exit to the airport. Participants in the demonstration can find free parking along O’Hare Boulevard\, which tees into Biddle opposite the airport entrance\, or pay a small amount for short-term parking at the airport. \nORD2’s Community Protection Team (CPT)\, which is organizing this action\, will have a large banner to display\, but participants are encouraged to make and bring signs communicating our solidarity with our undocumented sisters and brothers and our displeasure at Avelo’s complicity with the Trump roundups. \nAs an aid to sorting out the logistics\, please let CPT co-leader Herb Rothschild know if you’re planning to come. And everyone can put pressure on Avelo by signing the national “We won’t fly” petition.

DESCRIPTION:Following up on an earlier Massachusetts Peace Action Education Fund Conference will be gathering to explore paths to protect the federal budget supporting public schools\, and continuing to try to reach out to parents and grandparents among our Peace Action affiliates and their local allies. Register here. The threats to federal education programs have become acute. Funds for PELL grants\, title I and disability programs are at risk in the Trump/Musk Administration. The proposed termination of the Dept of Education will weaken other school programs. Though organizations representing teachers and educators\, including NEA\, AFT and AAUP\, have come together to resist the proposed cuts\,\, it remains difficult to reach parents\, who generally lack statewide organizations. Their local school district organizations rarely address the federal budget.

DESCRIPTION:The Rogue Valley Peace Choir — now celebrating its 22nd year — is presenting a concert entitled Be a Light. The choir — directed by Rob Griswell-Lowry and accompanied by Mikiko Petrucelli — is a community\, secular choir dedicated to building peace\, equality\, social justice\, and stewardship of our planet through song. The concert’s Be a Light theme is inspired by one of the songs in the choir’s repertoire that encourages people not to “hide in the dark\,” but to be a light in a world full of hate\, to be peace in a time full of war\, and to make a difference where change is needed. Other songs in the repertoire express the choir’s passion for recognizing the connection to everyone in our community and beyond; for supporting social justice\, diversity and self acceptance; and for treading lightly on our Mother Earth. While the concerts are free\, donations of any amount are welcome\, with a suggested donation of $15 for adults; no one will be turned away. Donations support the choir’s ability to perform for free at schools\, senior homes\, and community events throughout the year. See more about the choir and its staff.

DESCRIPTION:The Ashland Flute Circle is presenting two days of activities. The flute gathering from 3 to 6:30 pm on this date will feature open mic\, flute vendors\, a raffle and silent auction. A food truck will be on site. SUMMARY:Music & Song: ‘Be a Light’ for Peace\, Justice\, the Earth
DESCRIPTION:The Rogue Valley Peace Choir — now celebrating its 22nd year — is presenting a concert entitled Be a Light. The choir — directed by Rob Griswell-Lowry and accompanied by Mikiko Petrucelli — is a community\, secular choir dedicated to building peace\, equality\, social justice\, and stewardship of our planet through song. The concert’s Be a Light theme is inspired by one of the songs in the choir’s repertoire that encourages people not to “hide in the dark\,” but to be a light in a world full of hate\, to be peace in a time full of war\, and to make a difference where change is needed. Other songs in the repertoire express the choir’s passion for recognizing the connection to everyone in our community and beyond; for supporting social justice\, diversity and self acceptance; and for treading lightly on our Mother Earth. While the concerts are free\, donations of any amount are welcome\, with a suggested donation of $15 for adults; no one will be turned away. Donations support the choir’s ability to perform for free at schools\, senior homes\, and community events throughout the year. See more about the choir and its staff. DESCRIPTION:Join us to support our homeless neighbors at a benefit concert at Havurah Shir Hadash. Suggested donation $20\, but no one turned away for lack of funds. \nHavurah Shir Hadash supports those without homes by providing space in the parking lot for RVs to park overnight. Funds raised from this benefit concert pay for porta-potties and trash pickup. \nFeatured musicians are singer/songwriter Gene Burnett\, composer Michael Silversher and his wife Victoria Graham\, and singer/songwriter Heather Hutton. \nGene Burnett’s music is a mix of deep and playful songs. He has over 30 albums available for downloading free or a donation on his website. \nMichael Silversher’s diverse musical career includes writing songs for the 5th Dimension\, musical director for Theater Works in Silicon Valley\, and composing music for Disney\, Jim Henson\, Warner Brothers\, Sony\, and others. Currently\, he and Victoria sing with the Rogue Valley Peace Choir. \nHeather Hutton’s songs are a tapestry of interesting chord changes\, haunting melodies\, and themes of personal transformation. She is an elementary school music teacher and a holistic voice coach.
