SUMMARY:Third Harmony Film Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Nonviolence Study & Practice Affinity Group \nOctober 1\, 2023
1-3pm PT // 2-4pm MT // 3-5pm CT // 4-6pm ET
Free\, register below \nJoin us to watch the movie The Third Harmony: Nonviolence and the New Story of Human Nature together\, and then have an online discussion of the movie. The Third Harmony tells the story of nonviolence\, humanity’s greatest (and most overlooked) resource. As per Joanna Macy\, “I am exhilarated and grateful to the filmmakers for bringing forth such a fine gift for the future of life on Earth. Hurray! and deep bows.” \nRegister Here \nAbout the Film: Drawing on interviews with veteran activists like Civil Rights leader Bernard Lafayette\, scientists like behaviorist Frans de Waal and neuroscientist Marco Iacoboni\, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal\, political scientist Erica Chenoweth\, futurist Elisabet Sahtouris and others\, The Third Harmony tells the story of nonviolence\, the greatest overlooked resource in human experience. \nThe film also delves into the important role that nonviolence plays in the wider struggle to develop a new theory of human nature\, how every one of us can add to our personal growth and fulfillment while benefiting society through the use of this time-tested power. \nAbout the Nonviolence Study & Practice Affinity Group: We are a small group that studies nonviolence and finds ways to apply it in our lives and communities. Sometimes\, we attend a course together or explore a resource on the Pace e Bene website or YouTube page. Whether restorative circles\, divesting\, Soul of Nonviolence podcasts\, Nonviolence News\, nonviolence pledges\, Engaging Nonviolence etc\, there’s a lot to put into practice!

SUMMARY:From Local Action to Global Impact
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, Sept. 21 — From Local Action to Global Impact – Noon-1pm – Global ZoomMany of us grapple with the questions of what is ours to do and how do we make the biggest impact. We do so as we process the overwhelm and despair that emerges as we witness the unfolding climate chaos—wildfires\, hurricanes\, heat waves\, people forced to flee their homes due to disasters\, and so much more. \nThose feelings live alongside the knowledge that urgent action is needed and a soup of paralysis\, anxiety\, and dread can ensue. Join the Pachamama Alliance global community to explore the journey from concern\, dread\, and paralysis to impactful action. We’ll explore the connection between global issues and local solutions and share some examples of individuals who are on a journey to discover their role to play in the unfolding climate crisis. \nThis call is part of Resilience and Possibility in These Times\, a series of online offerings to support us all in staying connected to one another during these challenging times. \nRegister Here: https://landing.pachamama.org/call-48-impact

SUMMARY:SOCAN: What’s Happening to our Douglas firs?
DESCRIPTION:Anyone spending time in the dryer forests of Southern Oregon will have seen the splashes of orange among the healthy green backdrop. These splashes of color portend our future; they represent Douglas firs that are expiring. As the trees die\, the needles lose the healthy green chlorophyll that drives photosynthesis and produce the familiar orange splashes that increasingly dot the skyline of our hills.Extension Forester\, OSU (retired) Max Bennett has been studying this phenomenon for some years. \nBennett will provide an account of his findings and conclusions during the next Southern Oregon Climate Action Now monthly open public meeting. The program will occur on Tuesday August 29 th at 6:00 pm at the Medford Public Library. The presentation is free and open to the public.
