SUMMARY:SoCAN: Election 2022 – Now What?
DESCRIPTION:Join Southern Oregon Climate Actin Now November 29 to learn about what’s next after midterms.\n\n\nFrom SoCAN:\nElections have consequences; the result of the 2022 mid-term election could be dramatic at all levels. The Yale Program on Climate Change Communication reported that as of February 2022 74% of Oregonians think global warming is happening and 66% are worried about it. The data also suggest that 63% think Congress should do more about it\, while 53% think the President and the Governor should do more.  Nevertheless\, as the election approached\, polls consistently showed that the climate crisis ranked well below other more immediate pocket book issues in the minds of voters across the country\, with an array of other issues featuring more prominently in the public mind as critical to their voting choices. \nWe know that individual action and commitment is critical as a prerequisite for local\, state and federal action\, but even when voters acknowledge the urgency of acting on the climate crisis\, that recognition is not always translated into electoral action. The 2022 mid-terms represented a critical moment when voters were able to express the level of their concern by electing candidates who acknowledge the crisis and commit to action. \nThe November SOCAN general public meeting program will be devoted to exploring the results of the 2022 election and assessing how they hamper or contribute to our local\, state\, and national effort to address the climate crisis. \nDetails\, including registration – SOCAN Calendar

SUMMARY:The Real Path to Peace in Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:NEGOTIATIONS- YES!  ESCALATION- NO! \nSaturday\, November 19th\, 11:00am to 4:00pm \nRSVP for this online event \nThe moment is now to inaugurate a new\, multi-national\, grassroots movement to advocate for the end to the current war in Ukraine. The stakes are too real and the dangers too great for the peoples of the word to remain on the sidelines. \nAnti-war forces in the United States and across the world may have different analyses of Russia\, Ukraine\, and this tragic war\, but we can unite around one thing: there is no road to peace if US government policy remains to obstruct negotiations and send endless weapons into the war zone. \nWe\, people of conscience\, are coming together to demand that there be a radical shift in the direction of US military and foreign policy. NATO expansion must end. Money must be spent on education\, healthcare\, and housing\, not the war machine. We demand peace\, not war. Join us! \nSpeakers include: \nJeremy Corbyn\, UK Member of Parliament
\, Jill Stein\, Former Green Party Presidential Nominee
\, Vijay Prashad\, Tricontinental Institute for Social Research
\, Brian Becker\, ANSWER Coalition\,
Eugene Puryear\, Breakthrough News\,
Claudia de la Cruz\, The People’s Forum\, and
Medea Benjamin\, from CODEPINK
…and more! \nThis event is co-sponsored by The People’s Forum and the ANSWER Coalition.

SUMMARY:Beaver Days at Vesper Meadow
DESCRIPTION:Join Vesper Meadow and The Beaver Coalition to ‘behave like beavers’ and implement our biggest single push for Latgawa Creek restoration yet. Four years in the making\, this is the culmination of much research\, monitoring\, and preparation – and we believe it will be a huge turning point for restoring the hydrologic system\, wildlife habitat\, and the native plant ecosystem. \nJoin in the teamwork and the collaboration \nWe need your help making human-created beaver-based structures in the creek with small woody debris\, removing invasive plants\, willow staking\, and planting native shrubs. We’ll be working together\, learning about Low-tech Process-Based Restoration strategies\, and enjoying the early fall in the meadow. This work requires walking in the meadow on uneven surfaces\, bending\, carrying 5-25 pounds (moderate – heavy effort). \nWe’ll be in the field for 4-5 days (or until it’s done!) and hope you can join us as any point – for a morning or afternoon session\, or two! \nWe’ll supply the snacks\, drinks\, tools\, and good cheer. Bring work gloves\, water bottle\, and shovel if you have one. \nLearn More Here

SUMMARY:Ruth Ozeki in Conversation with the Hearing Voices Network
DESCRIPTION:The Voices Behind The Book of Form and Emptiness: \nThursday\, September 29th\, 2022. 6pm-7:30pm (Eastern) \nThe Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki tells the story of a young voice hearer named Benny Oh. The novel is narrated by one of Benny’s voices\, a book that tells the story of Benny’s life. Although Benny experiences mainstream psychiatric care including psychiatric hospitalization\, it is not the medical model that helps Benny make sense of his life. \nLike many voice hearers\, Benny makes meaning out of his experiences through developing relationships with fellow psychiatric survivors and voice hearers\, and through finding ways to relate positively to his own voices. The Book of Form and Emptiness\, which won the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2022\, is a remarkable example of how the core principles and understandings of the Hearing Voices Network approach are reaching new audiences around the world. \nOn Thursday\, September 29th at 6PM Eastern\, join us for a lively conversation with Ruth Ozeki and the Hearing Voices Network USA about the power of our voices and the stories we inhabit. Panelists include: Ruth Ozeki\, Author; Jeannie Bass\, Director of Peer Services and HVN-USA Board member; Claire Bien\, Author\, HVN-USA Board member\, and president\, ISPS-US; Derek Pyle\, Writer and HVN support group facilitator. With thanks to Remy Blasko. \nRegister Here
