SUMMARY:Ruth Ozeki in Conversation with the Hearing Voices Network
DESCRIPTION:The Voices Behind The Book of Form and Emptiness: \nThursday\, September 29th\, 2022. 6pm-7:30pm (Eastern) \nThe Book of Form and Emptiness by Ruth Ozeki tells the story of a young voice hearer named Benny Oh. The novel is narrated by one of Benny’s voices\, a book that tells the story of Benny’s life. Although Benny experiences mainstream psychiatric care including psychiatric hospitalization\, it is not the medical model that helps Benny make sense of his life. \nLike many voice hearers\, Benny makes meaning out of his experiences through developing relationships with fellow psychiatric survivors and voice hearers\, and through finding ways to relate positively to his own voices. The Book of Form and Emptiness\, which won the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2022\, is a remarkable example of how the core principles and understandings of the Hearing Voices Network approach are reaching new audiences around the world. \nOn Thursday\, September 29th at 6PM Eastern\, join us for a lively conversation with Ruth Ozeki and the Hearing Voices Network USA about the power of our voices and the stories we inhabit. Panelists include: Ruth Ozeki\, Author; Jeannie Bass\, Director of Peer Services and HVN-USA Board member; Claire Bien\, Author\, HVN-USA Board member\, and president\, ISPS-US; Derek Pyle\, Writer and HVN support group facilitator. With thanks to Remy Blasko. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:A Tale of Two Countries: Honduras & Nicaragua Face the Shock Doctrine
DESCRIPTION:Join Alliance for Global Justice for a 75-minute comparison of economic policies and public health systems in Honduras and Nicaragua\, as both countries confront the challenges of global capitalism. How do these nations manage to resist a foreign-controlled extractive economic model – or aggressive attempts to force them “open for business”? How have they confronted the Covid pandemic\, with what results? \nRegister Here \nSpeakers:\nJennifer Atlee coordinates the Friendship Office of the Americas\, which fosters solidarity among the peoples of Nicaragua\, Honduras\, and the United States. Its Honduras Accompaniment Project works alongside the Honduran nonviolent social movement. She lived in Central America for several decades and wrote a book\, Red Thread; A Spiritual Journal of Accompaniment\, Trauma and Healing\, chronicling her experiences in the contra war zones of Nicaragua. \nDr. James J. Phillips is the author of Honduras in Dangerous Times: Resistance and Resilience (2015) and the recently published Extracting Honduras: Resource Exploitation\, Displacement\, and Forced Migration\, a book that details the frenzied US extraction of Honduran natural resources – leading to massive community displacement\, dependency\, and poverty – in turn encouraging corruption\, violence\, gang recruitment\, drug trafficking\, and systematic repression of popular protest and resistance. He has also written about Nicaragua where he lived for several years during the contra war and has visited many times since. \nJohn Perry has lived and worked in Masaya\, Nicaragua\, for the past 19 years. He has been writing about Honduras since the 2009 coup and currently focuses on the contradictions in US policy toward Central America\, especially Nicaragua. He has been published in a number of journals including The Nation\, London Review of Books\, Counterpunch\, Council on Hemispheric Affairs (COHA)\, and Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR). His webinar presentation will compare public health investments and responses to Covid by Honduras and Nicaragua\, and the resulting health outcomes. \nThis event is part of a monthly webinar series on Nicaragua. SUMMARY:The Alchemy of Release: A Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Lotus Institute will host The Alchemy of Release: A retreat on grounding and letting go September 23-25 on Zoom. \nThich Nhat Hanoh defined nirvana as letting go. Grounding ourselves in the present moment\, we can learn to relax into letting go and become more available to life. \n\n\n\n\n\n“Letting go gives us freedom\, and freedom is the only condition for happiness. If\, in our heart\, we still cling to anything—anger\, anxiety\, or possession—we cannot be free.”— Thich Nhat Hanh\n\n\n\n\nDuring this 3-day online retreat\, Dharma Teachers Sister Peace\, Ava Avalos\, Joe Reilly and Peggy Rowe-Ward will explore the embodied practice of letting go. Ava Avalos will offer mindful movement through dance and restorative yoga. Joe Reilly brings the gift of ritual and music. Sister Peace will share stories and walking meditation. Peggy Rowe-Ward offers teachings and experiential exercises that help us return to our wise hearts and practice letting go like a river. \n\nLearn more and register here

DESCRIPTION:Join the Hearth Community in an evening with Mark Yaconelli as he discusses his new book\, Between the Listening and the Telling: How Stories Can Save Us. \nNow more than ever we need a teacher and a book such as this.—Anne Lamott\, New York Times Best Selling Author \nFrom the Hearth: \nThere is a depth to story that we rarely take time to ponder\, let alone to tell and hear. SUMMARY:Trans Storytelling Circle: Grants Pass
DESCRIPTION:Trans* Storytelling Circles\nConnect with other rural trans folks and celebrate trans lives in Southern Oregon!\n\n*Anyone who identifies as part of the trans community and lives or has lived in Southern Oregon is welcome! \nDescription: Trans* community\, let’s get together! The LGBTQ+ Listening Project is hosting a series of story circles to build relationships among trans* folks who live or have lived in southern OR and create more of a sense of community and connection. Given the high level of anti-trans activity happening nationwide\, we want to make space that is nourishing and celebratory. \nWhat is a story circle? A story circle is a group of people sitting in a circle and telling personal stories\, led by a facilitator. We all have stories worth telling and hearing. This is a space to meet each other and celebrate our stories! The themes of the circles will be home\, community\, safety\, transformation and celebration. \n*We are using trans* as a shorthand but this space is inclusive of Two Spirit\, genderqueer\, nonbinary\, etc.\, while recognizing these are separate identities & not all gender diverse people identify as trans. We welcome folks who would benefit from participating in this space. \nWhile we are grateful for community support\, this is not a space for allies/listeners/supportive cisgender community members. Our hope is that these circles will lead to future storytelling projects where we share our stories with our communities in ways that are liberatory and supportive to us. If you would like to collaborate on this\, reach out! \nCOVID-19 Safety: In accordance with state and local guidelines\, we are planning for this to be a mask-optional space. We will be indoors and there will be room to spread out and maintain 6′ distance if that is preferable. Please do let us know if you need something different in order to participate. <3 \nRegister at: BIT.LY/SOTRANSCIRCLES \nYou do not need to register in order to participate\, but if you would like to sign up we would appreciate it.\nEmail eliot@rogueactioncenter.org if you have any questions!

SUMMARY:SoCAN Monthly Meeting: Update from Our Children's Trust
DESCRIPTION:SoCAN’s monthly meeting will feature a presentation by Andrea Rodgers\, Our Children’s Trust Senior Litigation Attorney. \nFrom SoCAN: \nThe youth of the world are those who will suffer most if we fail to address the climate crisis. Our failure to address this crisis is why many young people are angry and others are simply disillusioned. Some\, meanwhile\, have joined forces through the Eugene-based organization\, Our Children’s Trust (OCT)\, to take legal action. This action takes the form of lawsuits against federal and state governments for their failure to acknowledge the responsibility governments have to protect the natural resources they hold in trust for future generations. \nSOCAN’s August monthly meeting will feature aa ZOOM presentation by Our Children’s Trust Senior Litigating Attorney Andrea Rodgers presenting an update on where the legal cases filed by Our Children’s Trust stand\, and what the future seems to hold. \nThere is no charge for joining the ZOOM meeting\, but participants must register. \nRegistration: bit.ly/SOCAN-OCT

SUMMARY:Building a Magical Toolbox
DESCRIPTION:Join Starhawk in her new session of Magical Activism for 2022 beginning July 20. \nDeepen your political activism and magical skills to focus collective power towards challenging and shifting unjust power structures. \n\n\n\n\n\nRight now\, we need tools to counter the manipulative magic that fragments our attention and sways our emotions—from clickbait on the internet to disinformation on Fox News. Lies scream\, while truth whispers. Anxiety\, outrage\, grievance and fear are amplified until they turn into outright hatred. \nBut we can use our magical and practical tools to change this\, to drain away the toxicity and amplify truth and compassion. And those same tools can build community and help each one of us stay grounded\, energized and hopeful through troubled times. \nTo use the full range of our tools to shift collective consciousness\, we’ll provide resources for taking practical action—that’s how we ground the magic and intensify its impact. \nJoin Starhawk in a new session of Magical Activism for 2022 as we upgrade our magical toolboxes together\, and learn how to use everything in them! \nDeep Political Activism\nI’ve always loved Dion Fortune’s definition of magic: “the art of changing consciousness at will.” It’s always seemed to me to be a perfect definition of deep political activism: not just challenging unjust power\, but shifting the consciousness that accepts injustice. \nTo enact this deep work\, we’ll meet live online roughly every three weeks from mid-July through November (schedule below). Each session will focus on an issue relevant to the moment\, and each will incorporate a specific magical skill. You’ll have ‘homework’—ways to continue the magic between sessions. \nWith crucial midterm elections coming up for the United States in November\, our work will have a U.S. focus—but the tools and skills will be relevant wherever you are. \nWhile we’ll respond to the events of the moment\, here are some of the issues we are likely to cover: \n\n\n\nDefending Democracy\nReproductive Rights and Gender Justice\nRacial Justice\nClimate Change\nCountering Disinformation\nElection magic\nPeace\n\n\n\n  \nHow Magical Activism Works\nThis is a 4-month series that runs between July 2022-November 2022. It’s a live\, cohort-based course which means it centers on our live rituals hosted on Zoom on Wednesdays roughly every 3 weeks. It also means that everyone in the course is joining in live too\, and learning and working together and organizing on the same timeline. \nEach session will focus on a different activist cause. We will do a ritual to add magic to the cause\, then commit to taking solid action towards that cause. \nOnce you register (by donation)\, you’ll be invited via email to our private online learning community where you will be able to access upcoming live links and past recordings\, connect with other magical activists between sessions\, share ideas\, respectfully debate\, and organize. \nEach session includes: a live (or recorded live) ritual teaching session\, some deep personal and community healing work within a ritual framework\, and suggested personal practices (“homework”) to take action in the weeks between sessions. \nEach session will be recorded\, so if you miss one\, you can watch at your leisure. All the links to past sessions will be stored in our private Magical Activism course community. \nAll of our sessions will include live closed captioning and ASL interpretation \nYour Commitment\nBy registering for this series\, you are committing to one 90-minute live session every 3 weeks for the next 4 months. If you can’t join us live\, you can watch the recordings at your convenience. \nWe are asking that you commit additionally to at least an hour of your time for each session to practical\, real-world work on an issue. \nThis might mean making calls for a candidate\, showing up for a demonstration or organizing one\, writing your representatives\, donating money to an organization or a campaign\, writing your own posts on the internet and/or amplifying others\, a project or creative work of your own. \nOf course\, I would never ask you to do anything that goes against your personal values or violates your sense of integrity. \nFirst Live Session\nWednesday July 20th | 5:30pm Pacific Time \nSeries Schedule\nThis is our tentative schedule—of course\, subject matter may shift in response to current events\, and we have been known to add bonus/emergency sessions at times when needed. More details on each session will be released before the course begins. \nSession 1 | Wednesday\, July 20th \nSession 2 | Wednesday\, August 10th \nSession 3 | Wednesday\, August 31st \nSession 4 | Wednesday\, September 21st \nSession 5 | Wednesday\, October 12th \nSession 6 | Wednesday\, November 2nd \nSession 7 | Wednesday November 9th or 16th (TBD) \n  \nThis Course is Open to Anyone Who Wants to Learn These Skills and Tools.\nMy own political perspective is progressive to radical. I’ve had a lifelong commitment to social justice in all its forms\, to non-violence\, feminism\, environmental balance and justice\, and undoing all the structures of oppression. \nWe offer this course by donation because we want all who are called to this work to be able to access it. Donate what feels comfortable for you\, and share this course with all who may be called to this work! \nI strongly believe that what we need now is a powerful\, welcoming movement for justice in all its forms\, one that is truly inclusive of all people\, and that generates energy\, enthusiasm and joy even in the midst of struggle.

The multitude of plants showcases the botanical diversity of the Siskiyou Crest\, however cattle grazing in the area has been an ongoing concern for the Rogue River-Siskiyou NF. \nWith a strong partnership between KS Wild and the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest\, a remedy is in sight\, as the groups work together to repair a fence to protect this sensitive place on public lands. \nSign up today to spend Friday and Saturday camping and working far out on the wild Siskiyou Crest to keep grazing cattle from entering a wet meadow. \nWork days will be Friday from 8:30am-5pm and Saturday from 8:30am-5pm. \nFind out more and register on KS Wild’s site: https://www.kswild.org/upcoming-events/2022/6/10/alex-hole-stewardship-day

SUMMARY:The Beginning and the End of America
DESCRIPTION:In this moment of upheaval\, it is evident that our past – one of colonialism\, enslavement and oppressive patriarchy – is alive in the present. The nonduality of our circumstances is also clear. With an organic understanding of collapse\, not an industrial one\, we start to see the old is providing fertilizer for the new. \nIn this talk\, Dr. Ward will explore how we have confused change for transformation. \nTransformation is at the base; change happens at the surface. Dr. Ward will share practices that cultivate individual transformation and help us create\, as Margaret Wheatley describes it\, islands of sanity. Please join us. \nThis event is Donation Based. \nRegister Here
