DESCRIPTION:Peace House invites you to join many partners in the community for the 38th annual observation of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings Saturday\, August 6 at the Thalden Pavilion in Ashland. The event will feature the planting of a Gingko biloba tree grown from a seed that survived the atomic blast in Hiroshima\, Japan. \nThe event will also include an expression of collective hope for an end to the threat of nuclear annihilation by Hiroshima survivor and Medford resident Hideko Tamura Snyder\, performances by Ashland’s Peace Choir\, remarks by Peace House Director Elizabeth Hallett\, and an opening reflection by Dan Wahpepah with Red Earth Descendants. \nAlso featured will be the traditional ringing of the gong followed by silence to mark the moment of the detonation that killed more than 100\,000 residents of Hiroshima\, and a reading of the City of Ashland proclamation declaring August 6 as “Hiroshima Day” and August 9 as “Nagasaki Day.” \nClosing the program at the pavilion will be the offering of prayers while ladling water over stones in a basin. The attendants will then proceed with the basin over a short boardwalk to the site of the peace tree\, where the dedication will take place and its roots will be watered with prayer.

Anxiety\, outrage\, grievance and fear are amplified until they turn into outright hatred. \nBut we can use our magical and practical tools to change this\, to drain away the toxicity and amplify truth and compassion. And those same tools can build community and help each one of us stay grounded\, energized and hopeful through troubled times. \nTo use the full range of our tools to shift collective consciousness\, we’ll provide resources for taking practical action—that’s how we ground the magic and intensify its impact. \nJoin Starhawk in a new session of Magical Activism for 2022 as we upgrade our magical toolboxes together\, and learn how to use everything in them!  \nDeep Political Activism\nI’ve always loved Dion Fortune’s definition of magic: “the art of changing consciousness at will.” It’s always seemed to me to be a perfect definition of deep political activism: not just challenging unjust power\, but shifting the consciousness that accepts injustice. \nTo enact this deep work\, we’ll meet live online roughly every three weeks from mid-July through November (schedule below). Each session will focus on an issue relevant to the moment\, and each will incorporate a specific magical skill. You’ll have ‘homework’—ways to continue the magic between sessions. \nWith crucial midterm elections coming up for the United States in November\, our work will have a U.S. focus—but the tools and skills will be relevant wherever you are. \nWhile we’ll respond to the events of the moment\, here are some of the issues we are likely to cover: \n\n\n\nDefending Democracy\nReproductive Rights and Gender Justice\nRacial Justice\nClimate Change\nCountering Disinformation\nElection magic\nPeace\n\n\n\n  \nHow Magical Activism Works\nThis is a 4-month series that runs between July 2022-November 2022. It’s a live\, cohort-based course which means it centers on our live rituals hosted on Zoom on Wednesdays roughly every 3 weeks. It also means that everyone in the course is joining in live too\, and learning and working together and organizing on the same timeline. \nEach session will focus on a different activist cause. We will do a ritual to add magic to the cause\, then commit to taking solid action towards that cause. \nOnce you register (by donation)\, you’ll be invited via email to our private online learning community where you will be able to access upcoming live links and past recordings\, connect with other magical activists between sessions\, share ideas\, respectfully debate\, and organize. \nEach session includes: a live (or recorded live) ritual teaching session\, some deep personal and community healing work within a ritual framework\, and suggested personal practices (“homework”) to take action in the weeks between sessions. \nEach session will be recorded\, so if you miss one\, you can watch at your leisure. All the links to past sessions will be stored in our private Magical Activism course community. \nAll of our sessions will include live closed captioning and ASL interpretation \nYour Commitment\nBy registering for this series\, you are committing to one 90-minute live session every 3 weeks for the next 4 months. SUMMARY:Siskiyou Out Back Trail Run
DESCRIPTION:Join us on July 9th\, 2022 high above the Rogue Valley for the 23nd annual Siskiyou Out Back Trail Run (The SOB)! We have something for everyone\, our original 50K and 15K\, and our newer races the 50 Mile and 100K distances. Registration opens November 30. Registration in the longer races (100K/50M/50K) will be limited to runners 18 years or older unless by prior consent by the Race Directors.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach run begins and ends at the Mt. Ashland Lodge\, at an altitude of 6500 feet. From there the courses meander along the Pacific Crest Trail with breathtaking views of Mt. Shasta\, Mt McLaughlin\, and the Siskiyou and Cascade mountain ranges. The total course elevation for the 50K is about 4200 feet. The 50 mile features about 8400 feet of climbing and the 100K a whopping ~10\,500 feet.  Please note\, the 100K is not easy as our finish rate of just over 50% in 2021 will attest.  Many of our runners classify it as “challenging”.  Should you finish\, a 100 miler is well within your grasp. \nBonus: our ultramarathon distances are all UTMB qualifiers! The 100K is worth 4 points\, the 50M is worth 3 points and the 50K is worth 2 points. Additionally\, the 100K distance is a Western States 100-mile Endurance Run qualifier. \n\n\nRegister\n\n\nClick here to register\nPLEASE NOTE: UltraSignup.com is the only method we use to register runners. Our 2022 celebration of freedom promises to be even bigger than last year. \nWhat’s Planned: \nThe main stage will feature music throughout the day from an African drumming group\, Live music\, our very own Bishop Mayfield Band\, a local DJ\, inspiring speakers\, and singers\, plus dance and music performances from our youth program\, AfroScoutz. \nKids Zone- Inside there will be games and activities including a bouncy houses and face painting. A smaller stage in the Kids’ Zone will feature live music. \nLocal food trucks will serve food throughout the day\, highlighting a variety of Black-owned businesses and also featuring community partners. Vendors\, organizations\, and local leaders from across Southern Oregon will have booths on-site to engage with the community. \nAbout \nThe 2022 Southern Oregon Juneteenth Celebration is a collaboration between BASE and the B.E.S.T. team at Oregon’s Department of Human Services. We will then split into work groups (if needed) and begin restoration projects. Expect low to moderate intensity hiking\, digging and lifting. We will be cleaning up the botanical kiosk sign\, repairing buck and rail fencing\, signage installation and repairs as needed\, cleaning up trash and doing a photo assessment and GPS documentation of all signages and areas of concern. \nPort-o-Potties\, water and snacks will be available during the day. We look forward to working along side you to encourage the responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices! DESCRIPTION:The Rogue Valley New Day Network invites you to join their breakfast May 20 at 8 a.m. at the Bellevue Grange  \nThe Rogue Valley New Day Network is springing to life. We are holding our first meeting in two years at on. We will have our traditional potluck breakfast.  Please bring food to share\, your own dishes and silverware. This will be a time for each attendee to share their social activism\, gather allies and create community. \nEvent organizers request that everyone please bring a dish to share\, as well as one’s own plates and cups to help minimize waste from the event.
