Race, Reclamation, and the Resilience Revolution – by Larry Ward, with forward by Elizabeth Hallett, Director of Peace House
I know this is a very difficult moment. The fires of grief are burning all around us and within us. It is a continuation of the retribution of America’s racial karma. This 500-year legacy of tragedy has not escaped me.
I started a poem — it is not finished yet, but I suspect it will show up in America’s Racial Karma, the book I’ve been writing on the subject. So I’ll give you where I am so far:
Innocent suffering still flowing.
Perpetrators showered with fame and silent applause.
Slave catchers still live.
It is why we run.
To say, “I didn’t do it” in the whispers of your mind is an indication of your culpability.
To say that someone, it was not me, when in fact it was you
animating every move with your quiet permission.
Co-mission is the same as omission.
There is no hiding place down here.— Larry Ward

LEADERSHIP SPEAKS OUT ON THE MURDER OF MR. GEORGE FLOYD
“I can’t breathe!!…”
— That’s what George Floyd, an unarmed African American man, repeatedly told a white Minneapolis police officer who pinned him to the ground last Monday with a knee to his neck. Within less than an agonizing nine minutes, George Floyd was dead. He leaves behind a six-year-old daughter, a large family and many friends in both Minneapolis and Houston that loved him.

Volunteers pack meals
Uncle Food’s Diner Volunteers are packing 75 meals to go four days each week, participating in a seven-day-a-week project to provide food for our in-house Ashlanders.
In photo above they are holding their private hand sanitizers, donated by Phoenix-based Essential 3, an essential oil distributor and Peace House ally.
Meals-to-go (see flyer directly below) is a jointly sponsored project to provide meals for those who are unhoused. Peace House is providing four meals (of the 7 days) each week, including Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday weekly. State Representative Pam Marsh led the coordination between the City of Ashland, the Ashland Resource Center, Peace House, Jobs with Justice and The Monday Meal to secure a plan for food distribution which has been operating since March 24, with the current drop-off schedule in effect as of April 2.
The La Clinica Mobile Health Center is offering drop-in medical services from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays in the Medford Senior Center parking lot, 510 E. Main St., near the Ninth Street pedestrian bridge just south of Hawthorne Park. The team serves people on a first-come, first-served basis and payment is on an income-based sliding scale. People do not need to be La Clinica patients to seek care, and this service is designed for those who do not have a regular doctor. Schedule updates are always available at 541-512-3922.
