“Amid the pandemic, harebrained schemes to get rid of leaders we don’t like – a detailed plan for the overthrow of the Nicaraguan government”

Recently, a leaked document from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) revealed a detailed plan for the overthrow of the Nicaraguan government. For those who have a history and a familiarity with Latin America, this is alarming but not surprising. We have recently seen similar schemes for intervention and regime change in Venezuela. It is part of a long history full of U.S. interventions in Latin America to overthrow governments-Guatemala, Cuba, Chile, and on and on. The history of U.S. intervention in Nicaragua is especially long and violent, going back at least to the 1860s. U.S. direct military intervention supported the rise of the Somoza dictatorship in 1934. Every U.S. Administration from Franklin Roosevelt to Jimmy Carter supported that brutal dictatorship. A popular Sandinista-led revolution overthrew it in 1979. By 1980, the Reagan Administration was beginning to support a proxy army to overthrow the popular revolutionary government and “restore democracy” to Nicaragua. The Contra War (1981-1990) was the result, costing 30,000 Nicaraguan lives and leaving thousands of Nicaraguans with permanent disabilities.

Intervention is always sold to the U.S. public as the need to “restore democracy” to Nicaragua. I have spent much time in Nicaragua over the past forty years, including two years during the Contra War. At that time, Reagan was complaining about all the freedoms the revolutionary Sandinista government had (allegedly) taken away, even as I was witnessing Nicaraguans freely exercising all of those freedoms. I was most recently in Nicaragua in September of last year. I know how widely the reality there differs from the story we are fed by our government and our mainstream media. An essential part of intervention consists of spreading “information” that is totally fabricated or lacks context.

The below article is about Nicaragua and US ongoing attempts at “regime change.” The author, Steve Sefton, is British and has lived in Nicaragua for many years. I met him last September when I was in Nicaragua. He and his wife run a vocational training school for young Nicaraguans that is simple technology, low budget, and impressive.

This article is one of several by different authors that present a strong counter-narrative to most of what the mainstream media are dishing out about Nicaragua. Most of the mainstream coverage is negative and mirrors propaganda from the State Department loaded with blatant untruths and fictions. As Gandhi knew, truth is the stepping stone to justice and peace.

Nicaragua – Singing in the Rainrain

“Come on with the rain,
I’ve a smile on my face
I walk down the lane
with a happy refrain
Just singin’,
singin’ in the rain”- Gene Kelly – Singing in the Rain

Only the most perverse kind of ideology-derived inertia explains the stupidity, incompetence and criminality of current US foreign policy towards Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela. Stupid for being based on the insane messianic 19th Century Monroe Doctrine vision of Manifest Destiny, the US, in Nicaragua’s case, has applied for 40 years essentially the same unsuccessful policies that have failed for 170 years, ever since the defeat of William Walker. Now the US authorities have taken up where they left off following the landmark 1986 International Court of Justice ruling condemning US terrorist aggression against Nicaragua.

Having already resumed illegal unilateral coercive measures attacking Nicaragua’s economy, the US government is now openly supplementing its economic aggression with a program intended not just to supplant Nicaragua’s Sandinista government but ultimately to destroy Sandinismo as a viable political movement. They want to turn Nicaragua into Bolivia. Last week, Managua’s Radio La Primerísima revealed the contents of a USAID document with details of this next US government effort at regime change in Nicaragua. The document outlines the main elements of a program called Responsive Assistance in Nicaragua (RAIN). As if it were designed to fail, the thinking behind RAIN is wantonly yankee in practically every sense, bumptious, superficial, self-regarding technocratic nonsense. Its premises are irrational from the start, like an alchemist’s recipe, lost in spurious detail, oblivious to its demented absurdity.

BREAKING: TELL CONGRESS THE US SHOULD STAY OUT OF NICARAGUA!

Stop Funding Regime Change Operations Abroad!

Tell Congress the US Should Stay out of Nicaragua!

An orchestrated plan financed by the United States to launch a government transition in Nicaragua over the next two years was leaked in a document from the US embassy and released July 31, 2020, by Nicaraguan journalist William Grigsby on his political analysis program “Sin Fronteras”, on Radio La Primerísima. Grigsby says the new coup plan is in response to the fact that the US realizes President Daniel Ortega will likely win the November 2021 elections. The 18 page document is RFTOP No: 72052420R00004, with the title RAIN or Responsive Assistance in Nicaragua. Click here to see the document: https://s3. amazonaws.com/rlp680/files/ uploads/2020/07/31/aid-mayo- 2020-ingles.pdf The document is called a “Terms of Reference” document and is being used to contract a US company to take charge of carrying out the planned removal of the government. The company chosen by USAID will head the plan to try to disrupt public order and do other actions (violent and otherwise) before, during and/or after the 2021 elections. The funds to implement this plan are or will be allocated through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). READ THE FULL NICANOTES ARTICLE BY NAN MCCURDY HERE.
