Learn About Fighting Food and Housing Insecurity in the Rogue Valley
- The problems surrounding food and housing insecurity in the Rogue Valley
- Local organizations providing relief to those affected by hunger, homelessness, and the recent wildfires
- First-hand experiences of houselessness
SOU OSPIRG will be hosting a panel event on Friday, December 4 from 1-3 P.M. The panel will consist of several individuals from our valley who work to feed and house vulnerable members of our community. A speaker who has recently struggled with houselessness will share their experiences and the resources they used to help them out of houselessness. It will also be a fundraiser for Unete, an organization working on fire relief and providing resources to the Latinx community of Jackson County.
In addition there will be a number of local performers who will share their pieces with us throughout the event.
This is the second event of this style, our first being last spring. We are excited for the opportunity to highlight more voices within our community and offer potential ways to get involved. We hope that this panel will inspire new activists to pursue the end of hunger and houselessness in our community and elsewhere.
In Oregon we have historically struggled with houselessness, but since the COVID-19 pandemic and fires across the state, the problem has increased.
We will also be releasing our community-sourced recipe and artbook, which is full of content sourced from SOU students, and formatted to be usable for omnivores and vegans alike. The no-art version will be available for free, and the complete version will be available to those who donate. If you are interested in submitting art, poetry, or recipes, please send them to ospirg@sou.edu
