Whiteness & the Grief of Being a Culture-less People: Session

6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
October 27

On Wednesday, Oct 27, 6:30-8:30 PM, PDT, via Zoom, Deconstructing Whiteness will host their monthly meeting, with the theme “Whiteness, and the Grief of Being a Culture-less People.”

You can find out more by visiting their website.

From Deconstructing Whiteness, “All sessions, though focused on the education of white participants, are very much open to BIPOC folks, who are interested in attending. With an eye to creating community, it is wonderful to see folks attend multiple times, continuing to build connection.”

PREP MATERIALS:
In preparation for this topic please take some time, though not required, to watch the video or read any of these articles. This is an important territory in this work that we have not delved into previously.

1) Tim Wise Video – The History of Whiteness (Video 6:51)
Concise and impassioned history of how we got to whiteness. TL

2) Grief & the White Void – Article by Abraham Lateiner
I found it compassionate and helpful entering this territory. TL

3) How Italians Became White – Article from the NY Times Magazine- 2019
Spoke to me and my personal lineage. Story mirrors that of many groups settling here from Europe, or from anywhere early in the 20th century. TL

Prep Materials are offered to enhance your experience for the evening, are not required, and may plant a seed.
