You played a major role in stopping Obama from immediately launching a Cruise missile attack on Syria. You proved the power of grassroots peace action. Thank you. But at this very moment, the Obama Administration is exerting enormous pressure on members of Congress to authorize that same attack. We must act one more time. Please.
Call the offices of our two U.S. Senators and U.S. Representative Greg Walden and tell them to vote NO on this request. Opposition to date has been bi-partisan. So don’t write off the possibility that Walden will do the right thing.

What will an attack accomplish?
President Obama says it will punish the Assad regime for violating international law by using poison gas. But if the U.S. launches a military attack on a nation that has not attacked it, that action will be an even more gross violation of international law and the UN Charter. How contradictory! Is this any way to restore our moral standing in the world community?
President Obama says it will be a limited attack, so the U.S. won’t get into another dreadful, no-win war in the Middle East. So what good will it do?
It won’t be a humanitarian intervention.
It won’t stop the civil war. It won’t topple the Assad government,
It won’t support the good guys, because the armed opposition includes Al Qaeda and many other factions who aren’t committed to democracy and human rights. And there is evidence that some of them used poison gas earlier this year.
ALL THIS ATTACK WILL DO IS KILL MORE PEOPLE IN A NATION ALREADY SUFFERING FROM TOO MUCH DEATH.
ALL THIS ATTACK WILL DO IS DEMONSTRATE THAT THE U.S. CAN KILL WHOMEVER IT WANTS WHENEVER IT WANTS AND BE ANSWERABLE TO NO INTERNATIONAL AUTHORITY.
IS THAT WORTH THE LIVES OF INNOCENT MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN?

Wyden, Merkley, and Walden are not going to get many calls from their constituents favoring still more U.S. killing in the Middle East. But they may cave in to Presidential pressure if they don’t get an overwhelming number of calls opposing a military strike.
IT’S REALLY UP TO YOU AND ME. THINK OF IT THIS WAY: YOU AND I CAN PREVENT MURDER. IF IT WERE HAPPENING NEXT DOOR TO JUST ONE PERSON, SURELY WE’D CALL 911. IS THERE REALLY ANY DIFFERENCE? AREN’T ALL THESE PEOPLE OUR NEIGHBORS . . . INDEED, OUR SISTERS AND BROTHERS?
