Jefferson Center Salon Series: Separation of Church and State

The Jefferson Center Salon Series presents Separation of Church and State in 2021. The virtual event will feature Olena Black, who will report back from the Freedom from Religion Foundation’s (FFRF) national convention last November. The Zoom presentation will offer short videos of featured speakers, including:

  • Andrew Seidel, Director of Strategic Response at FFRF, on how Christian nationalism was involved in the January 6 riots;
  • Chris Cameron, who points to the long history of free thinkers in the Black community in the US;
  • Megan Phelps-Roper, who describes why she left the hate-oriented Christian congregation into which she was born.

The Freedom from Religion Foundation “works as an umbrella for those who are free from religion and are committed to the cherished principle of separation of state and church.” It works through advocacy, litigation, and education through radio, video, publications, and speaker programs.

Olena Black is a lifelong Jackson County resident, whose career was business systems analyst; she is currently a local history preservationist.
