Black Resistance: Examples of African Rebellion

5:00 pm - 6:30 pm
February 26

Online

Melaneyes Media presents a free, online presentation celebrating Black History Month, which is a great time to look at the rich history of Black resistance.

During the times of slavery, enslaved African did not surrender to oppression or just engage in passive resistance against slaveholders—they planned and participated in armed revolts. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, enslaved Africans and African Americans in the United States and the world staged hundreds of revolts.

Historically, this month is an prime time for African Americans to remember and honor the freedom fighters and martyrs of the Black freedom struggle.

“From slave rebellions to Black Lives Matter, the key to liberation lies in our history.” – Cierra Chenier
