Light Up Your Bike Ride and Workshop

Join the SOU Sustainability Team, the SOU Outdoor Program, and the ASSSOU Environmental Affairs Committee in our celebration of sustainable transportation and biking during Earth Week for the Light Up Your Bike Ride and Workshop!

This event will entail a pizza dinner, bike light decorating workshop, music, and a fun ride at night through downtown Ashland where you can show off your cool ride! This event is free and open to the public and the SOU community alike!

The entire community is invited to attend – students, staff, faculty, family members, alumni and Raider supporters!

Advance registration is requested but not required unless you need to borrow a bicycle

Registration helps us plan ahead so we have enough pizza and bike bling for everyone! If you would like to request a loaner bicycle, please fill out this form by April 19th.

Event Details

When: April 21th

  • 6:30-7:15pm: Check-in and Pizza
  • 7:15-8:00pm: Light Up Your Bike Workshop
  • 8:00-9:00pm: Bike Ride Downtown Ashland

Where: Participant check-in and pizza will be at the Student Recreation Center located on lower SOU campus behind McLaughlin Hall. The bike ride will leave the SRC at 8:00pm after the bike light  workshop and will follow a route through downtown Ashland. We plan to return to the SRC by 9:00pm  to end the event.

Please wear clothes you plan to ride in! We will host the event no matter the weather, so dress accordingly to the temperatures between 6:30-9:00pm. This may include pants/shorts, close toes shoes, and layered tops. We also ask you to bring a water  bottle, as drinks will not be provided with pizza. If you have your own bike, bike helmet, and/or lights, please bring those! We will provide rental bikes and protective helmets for anyone who does not have them (register by April 19th for borrowing a bike!), as well as materials for you to light up your bike.

Tell your friends, post on social media, and get the word out to anyone in the community to let them know they are invited to come hang out, enjoy some pizza and socialization, and light up your bike to ride through downtown with us!

Click here to fill out the form, it’s that simple!

Thanks to folks to Talent Maker City for the idea for this event! Check out their “Lights on Bikes” event they hold every December if you want more bikes with lights! https://www.talentmakercity.org/lob

This is especially the case for our potential to address the climate crisis when some candidates for office accept the science of global warming and it climate change consequences while others display something between skepticism and outright rejection of science. From the local to the national level the outcomes from the 2024 general election will indicate profoundly whether meaningful action is likely. The Southern Oregon Climate Action Now November General Meeting will focus…
