A Conversation with Annie Jacobsen on May 29

We’re excited to inform you that Back from the Brink will be hosting a virtual event with Annie Jacobsen, investigative journalist and New York Times bestselling author of Nuclear War: A Scenario, on Wednesday, May 29 at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.

In her latest book, Jacobsen examines the reality of what would unfold in the seconds, minutes, and hours following the launch of a nuclear attack against the United States and the full scale nuclear war that would likely follow. In so doing, she exposes what the government and military do not want the public to understand about the current state of nuclear weapons, and the policies and procedures currently in place that we believe must be changed.

For the discussion portion of the event, Ms. Jacobsen will be joined by Archbishop John C. Wester (Archdiocese of Santa Fe), Eddie Laiche (a high school senior at John Burroughs High School in Burbank, CA and co-founder of Students for Nuclear Disarmament) and Dr. Ira Helfand (BftB Steering Committee member and a leader of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War and the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons). The event will be moderated by Denise Duffield (BftB Steering Committee member and Associate Director of Physicians for Social Responsibility-Los Angeles).

Submitted by SOCAN Elections always have consequences. This is especially the case for our potential to address the climate crisis when some candidates for office accept the science of global warming and it climate change consequences while others display something between skepticism and outright rejection of science. From the local to the national level the outcomes from the 2024 general election will indicate profoundly whether meaningful action is likely.
