Digital Security is Community Care: Secure Messaging 101

6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
April 10

Peace House

How do you securely talk to friends, family, or neighbors, while limiting the chances that your messages will be seen and used by a government with extensive surveillance tools at its disposal? Come learn about Signal, the go-to tool for those who just like privacy in their personal affairs as well as journalists, activists, and dissidents around the globe.
This workshop will be geared towards those who are brand-new to Signal and secure messaging, and is a welcoming space for anyone who identifies as tech-challenged. We’ll talk about why secure messaging is important, and why you might want to consider it for your daily communications in addition to organizing work. Bring your portable devices (like your phone and laptop) and we’ll help you install and begin to use Signal.
And if you’ve been hearing about Signal in the news recently, don’t worry: we’ll cover how to stay away from the Secretary of Defense’s easily avoidable mistakes.
Space is limited. Please register in advance.
