2019 West Coast Whistleblower Tour Southern Oregon
Tuesday, April 23
Southern Oregon University – Rogue River Room, Stevenson Union
6:30-8:30 p.m.
Cian Westmoreland, former U.S. Air Force technician now working to protect the human rights of border refugees, will speak about the responsibility of nations to resist drone strikes that violate international laws. The speaking tour will cover the cities of Eugene, Corvallis, Salem, Portland and Ashland. Westmoreland will describe his personal journey from operating remote combat drones to blowing the whistle on drone killings of civilian populations. The talk is timely as President Trump recently signed an executive order that could allow the CIA to conduct secret, unreported drone strikes.
Westmoreland will inform us of his current humanitarian work with asylum seekers and the refugee crisis along the US/Mexican border in conjunction with his work with Al Otro Lado, a non-profit, legal services organization serving indigent deportees, migrants, and refugees in Tijuana, Mexico.
The Southern Oregon Ad Hoc Whistleblower Committee is a non-profit, non-partisan group supporting the public’s right to know by promoting independent media events that shed light on issues not covered and often avoided in mass media.
