Your voice is needed to stop the Jordan Cove Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Export Terminal and Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline – Posted 5/1/19

On March 29th, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) released their 5600 page Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the twice-denied Jordan Cove Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Export Terminal and Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline proposed for southern Oregon. This opened a 90-day public comment period and proposed hearings for late June.

Your voice is needed to stop this project!

Right now, our communities have the opportunity to submit comments to FERC about the environmental impacts this project would have on our waterways, public lands, wildlife and climate.

The FERC comment submittal process is complicated so we and our partners at Rogue Climate are hosting local comment writing workshops throughout May to assist you in voicing your concerns for this project.

Tips for writing comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS):

  1. If you can, write your comments ahead of time in a Word or Google doc so you have them ready to submit at the workshop;
  2. You can submit comments about any and all of the impacts this project WILL have on southern Oregon and its communities;
  3. Topics include but are not limited to: impacts to waterways, tribal lands and traditional territories, public lands, landowners, old growth forests, wildlife, drinking water sources, fire dangers, the climate, safety in local communities, recreation, the Coos Bay estuary, fisheries, clamming, etc;
  4. The more specific your comments, the better! Make them personal and relevant to your experience living in southern Oregon or spending time here;
  5. Mention how long this project has been threatening southern Oregon communities, 15 years!
  6. Use this comment writing template and mail your comments from home!

Project Background:
Pembina, a Canadian fossil fuel corporation, is proposing to build a 229-mile pipeline through southern Oregon to an export terminal to ship liquefied fracked gas overseas from Coos Bay, Oregon. The Jordan Cove LNG project would threaten clean drinking water for 150,000 Oregonians, become the largest source of climate pollution in Oregon, and pose a major public safety threat to nearby communities.

In 2016, FERC denied the certificate to build the project stating that the “impacts to landowners outweighed the (so called) benefits”. We do not expect FERC to do the same this time around so it’s up to us to show the state and Governor Kate Brown that this project is not in our best interest. Southern Oregonians have been fighting this project for nearly 15 years now. It’s time to stop it for good!

You can help stop Jordan Cove LNG! We hope to see you at a comment writing workshops. Stay tuned for more information on FERC hearings in late June.
