An incredible opportunity to reflect on this year and next exists in Ashland this New Years, and you are invited. On Saturday, December 31, the “Community Labyrinth Walk to New Year” will be hosted at the familiar Wesley Hall at Ashland’s First United Methodist Church. The event is free and everyone is welcome to join this sacred space led by event organizer Elizabeth Austin.
“It offers an oasis of peace and beauty to reflect on the end of what has been and the beginning of what will be,” said Austin in a press release. “After two years, we are delighted to resume this beloved tradition in person. Everyone is invited to enjoy the values of peace, diversity, inclusivity, and personal freedom. Masks are optional and recommended.”
The event starts at 3:30 p.m. on New Years Eve, and spans until 1:00 a.m. Then the reflective event will pick back up on New Year’s Day at 10 a.m. A special children’s program at 2 p.m. will be hosted by the compassionate faith leader Dorita Borgeson. Innovative decorations and interactive altars will allow participants to honor the four cardinal directions, as well as childhood and community.
“The event is co-created by volunteers: musicians, artists, sacred space designers, ‘labyrinth angels’, plus the many people who choose to include the Sacred Walk in their turn-of-the-year celebrations,” said event organizer Elizabeth Austin.
