PEACE HOUSE

Ashland Winter Shelter Volunteers

We have just passed the half-way point in the Winter Shelter season! With volunteer’s help we have been able to provide a warm, safe place for the un-housed members of our community to get in out of the wet and cold nights.  We are serving between 30-50 men, women, and children in each of the 6 nights/week shelters.
With half of our guests having either some type of disability and/or being elderly, the shelters truly play an important role in saving lives. If we don’t have 2 hosts each night we are unable to open the shelter on that night and people will be on the streets. Thursday & Friday nights are our most urgent need for additional overnight hosts this month.
One additional Host is needed for each of the following dates & locations:
**Thursday Nights at Pioneer Hall: 2/8, 2/15, 2/22  (John Wieczorek is the Site Coordinator)
*Friday Nights at Pioneer Hall: 2/9, 2/16, 2/23  (Jason Houk is the Site Coordinator)
*Sunday Nights at Pioneer Hall: 2/25  (Vanessa Houk is the Site Coordinator)
*Monday Night at Presbyterian: 2/12  (Bob Altaras is the Site Coordinator)
* Wednesday Night at Trinity Episcopal: 2/14, 2/28  (Peter McBennett & Mary Bonnie are Site Coordinators)
To volunteer:  The link below will take you to a “Welcome” page with Yellow & Green highlights.  The tabs at the bottom of the Welcome page are labeled with the 6 nights of the week we have shelters.  If you click on Monday it will take you to the Monday night sign-up sheet that looks the same as in the past.  You’ll need to scroll down to find the date you’d like to volunteer for and type in your information.
If you need help to Sign-Up, please send me an email or call, stating the date and location you’d like to sign-up for and I will be happy to write your name on the list.
Although our winter is a little milder than usual right now, it is still quite chilly to be without shelter outside at night.  We and our guests are very grateful to our volunteers for giving so generously of their time and energy to help the most vulnerable members of our community.
Thanks so much,
Heidi & The Ashland Winter Homeless Shelter Team
