Braver Angels workshop on how to talk politics at family gatherings without ruining the holidays
Braver Angels of Southern Oregon will host a pre-Thanksgiving workshop on “dealing with family political differences in a constructive way” Saturday, November 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 165 N. Main Street.
The goals of the workshop are to give participants a deeper understanding of why family differences over politics are uniquely challenging, and insight into the common roles that family members play when political conversations go badly. Equipped with this knowledge, they should be able to navigate the challenges of holiday gatherings.
To register for the workshop contact Bruce Borgerson at wave@mind.net. To get the most out of the workshops, those who register are encouraged to complete a brief online course (about 40 minutes) in advance. It is available at https://braverangels.org/attend-a-workshop/.
Braver Angels is a national non-partisan organization founded to bring Americans together to strengthen our democratic republic. Its workshops are designed to help participants overcome divisiveness and rancor. They state their views freely and fully, without fear; treat people who disagree with honesty, dignity and respect; seek to disagree accurately, avoiding exaggeration and stereotypes; look for common ground where it exists and, if possible, find ways to work together.
The Southern Oregon chapter has been active for four years with presentations to local civil and community groups and workshops on several subjects to heal the political divide.
