Thursday 11/21, over 500 people were inside the state capitol building in Salem, with 85 of them occupying Governor Kate Brown’s office to demand an end to the Jordan Cove fracked gas project. They sat in to demand that Governor Brown use her authority as a member of the State Lands Board to deny state permits and stop this destructive project once and for all. Stand in solidarity with these brave people and call Governor Brown’s office now! Dial: 503-378-4582 Script: “My name is ____ and I support the people sitting in your office right now demanding an end to the Jordan Cove fracked gas pipeline and export terminal. This project threatens what I love about Oregon, and I hope you can be the “climate champion” governor Oregon needs and deny this project once and for all. Please use your authority on the State Lands Board to deny the Removal Fill permit before the Trump Administration pushes this project through. We’re all counting on you. Thank you.”
Communities across the region have been fighting this project for over a decade. Since elected, Governor Brown has remained neutral on this issue, putting our drinking water, public and private lands, and our climate at great risk. Even after over 100,000 comments were sent to state, federal, and local agencies opposing the project last year, our Governor has still remained neutral. Two of her peers, Governor Inslee of Washington and Governor Cuomo of New York, have recently declared opposition to similar fracked gas projects in their own states. Now, we’re counting on our Governor to do the same. The Jordan Cove fracked gas project would be Oregon’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, so the only way Governor Brown can be a true “climate leader” is to deny this project once and for all. |
