Know Your History: NAACP Black History Month Program

Why is it important for African Americans to know our history and teach it to our children? Why is there so much opposition to teaching African American history? What, if any, impact does our history have on us and on today’s events? Was Lincoln really the Great Emancipator?

If you want to know the answers to these questions and more, join us as we celebrate the birthday of NAACP National Office, which is known as Founders Day, and the birthday of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.

The NAACP DeKalb Branch is pleased to host a “Virtual” Black History Month Program on February 12, 2022, at 10:00 AM. This event is FREE to the public and all are invited to attend. The theme is KNOW YOUR HISTORY!

Our special keynote speaker is Dr. Akinyele Umoja. He is the Chair of the African American Studies Program at Georgia State University. He has taught in the Atlanta Public School system, Atlanta Metropolitan College, and the History Department at Clark Atlanta University. Dr. Umoja is an accomplished author and an activist. His most notable books are “We Will Shoot Back” and “The Black Power Encyclopedia”.

To attend you must register online at www.naacpdekalb.org.

For more information or to volunteer and support the branch contact Attorney Dee Smith, Remembrance Project Chair, at (404) 241-8006 or info@naacpdekalb.org.
