Lotus Institute: Heart Sutra Workshop

From the Lotus Institute

The Insight That Brings Us To The Other Shore is a gift from our beloved teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, and those who came before him. Thich Nhat Hanh has called the Heart Sutra “the highest vision of the Buddha.” Chanting The Insight That Brings Us To The Other Shore, Nhat Hanh’s new translation, can awaken the teacher in us, the one who shows us the way to our own awakened nature.

Dharma teacher and musician Brian Kimmel (Bk) with Dharma teacher, Peggy Rowe Ward, will lead us on a journey of learning with and chanting from The Heart Sutra. In this workshop, we will:

  • Chant the Insight That Brings Us To The Other Shore
  • Share tips on learning the chant and practicing it for ourselves and with our sanghas
  • Practice with our aspirations as a means to help bring this teaching into our daily life and where it is needed in the world.

When Thich Nhat Hanh completed this translation at 3am in the morning, a moon ray penetrated his room. Let’s come together to experience the clear light of the moon, and the deep abiding wisdom of this Sutra and our teacher.

Please know: you are welcome. Even if you don’t think you have a voice, even if you think you can’t chant, sing, or carry a tune – your heart can. We hope you will join us.

Submitted by SOCAN Elections always have consequences. This is especially the case for our potential to address the climate crisis when some candidates for office accept the science of global warming and it climate change consequences while others display something between skepticism and outright rejection of science. From the local to the national level the outcomes from the 2024 general election will indicate profoundly whether meaningful action is likely. The Southern Oregon Climate Action Now November General Meeting will focus…
