Mentoring Essentials Training – January 19 & 20

Rogue Valley Mentoring matches adults with youth for one-to-one mentoring, and utilizes experienced volunteers in school and community circles. Youth in all these programs receive in-depth mentoring every week, or at least four hours per month.

The next Mentoring Essentials Training will be January 19th from 6p-9p, and January 20th from 9a-5p.  You must attend both days of training to complete it.

Register Here: Mentor Application

The training will take place at the RVM Nature Center, 2931 S Pacific Hwy, Medford, OR 97501.

*Follow signs to ‘Nature Center’ after entering Lithia & Driveway Fields.

Training Details: Our Mentoring Essentials Training is free for those who commit to volunteering with RVM for at least a year after completing it. There is a $150 fee to take the training without becoming a volunteer.

The training covers strength-based communication, trauma-informed care, youth development, active listening, and avoiding bias; it also gives scenarios in small groups to practice the skills learned.

We are always receiving new applications from youth hoping for mentors.  We serve any youth in Jackson County between the ages of 9 and 24 years; most of our mentees are in middle- or high- school. Mentors are matched with youth who have similar interests; our Matches go hiking, see movies, play sports, check out local art, and more!

The volunteer schedule is flexible for 1:1 Matches, and agreed upon by volunteer mentors and their mentee’s family: you can make a big impact in just 6-10 hours per month!

We offer a $50 monthly stipend to volunteers in an active 1:1 Match, or Circle / Program, monthly support via Zoom meeting with our staff and other volunteers, and free, quarterly, in-person trainings with all our volunteers

Submitted by SOCAN Elections always have consequences. This is especially the case for our potential to address the climate crisis when some candidates for office accept the science of global warming and it climate change consequences while others display something between skepticism and outright rejection of science. From the local to the national level the outcomes from the 2024 general election will indicate profoundly whether meaningful action is likely. The Southern Oregon Climate Action Now November General Meeting will focus…
