Opening to Belonging: A Compassionate Listening & Movement Series

This event is comprised of six sessions beginning January 30.

Opening to Belonging: A Compassionate Listening & Movement Series with Kathleen Coyne & Eda Ertan

Deepen your understanding of compassion, human dignity, and forgiveness in this six-session series, focusing on gentle movement and deep listening as a foundation for belonging.

“If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” —Mother Theresa

Compassionate listening is a way to be ‘alive to’ our belonging to ourselves, our families, our communities, and the planet as a whole. This course will offer you the opportunity to experience community in its most expansive form and offers opportunities to listen deeply to what our ancestors, people in other parts of the globe, the natural world, and future generations are asking of us. Opening to our belonging through time and space, we can begin to explore how to engage our wisdom and healing capacity to respond to what future generations ask of us, to become ‘good ancestors.’

This six-session course will include:

  • Deepening practice with core compassionate listening skills
  • An introduction to the relationship between compassion, human dignity, and forgiveness
  • An exploration of listening as a foundation for belonging for all people of the world and the healing of trauma experienced by humanity and the natural world
  • Practice in holding compassion for our ancestors and the historic narratives that have shaped our world
  • An introduction to compassionate listening in the natural world – listening to our brothers and sisters of the forests, animal life, water, and sky
  • Opportunities to open our hearts to listen with compassion to future generations
  • Compassionate Movement practice will be incorporated into each session to help us ground somatically and activate the ‘inner healer.’

Submitted by SOCAN Elections always have consequences. This is especially the case for our potential to address the climate crisis when some candidates for office accept the science of global warming and it climate change consequences while others display something between skepticism and outright rejection of science. From the local to the national level the outcomes from the 2024 general election will indicate profoundly whether meaningful action is likely. The Southern Oregon Climate Action Now November General Meeting will focus…
