ABOUT THE UPTOWN STRING QUARTET
Founded in collaboration with Harlem jazz legend Max Roach in the 1980’s, the Uptown String Quartet is a group of four brilliant Black women whose careers have taken them from famous concert halls to universities to Hollywood over the last 40 years.
Anima Mundi Productions is proud to bring them to Ashland in early November for a reunion concert and a series of free community events and special visits with young people in the Rogue Valley. These community events include visits with BASE, Forward Youth, and the Southern Oregon ESD Indian Education Program.

Uptown String Quartet violinist Dr. Lesa Terry returns for her third visit to Ashland as part of our concert series, having met the Afroscoutz with opera singer Takesha Meshé Kizart last year and performing in the Honoring My Sister’s Beauty concert in May. Now Dr. Terry returns with the string quartet that launched her career.
The Quartet will be joined by special guest local Native American singer + artist Chava Florendo.
