Theater of the Oppressed Workshop

1:30 pm - 6:00 pm
August 16

White Rabbit Clubhouse

Rochelle Webster will be leading a participatory workshop on tools to change the scripts that we learn from society and media.

Rochelle took a fantastic Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) workshop from Julian Boal in Minneapolis and will bring what she learns home to Ashland to share with you! Julian is the founder of the Escola de Teatro Popular in Rio de Janeiro and teaches classical TO forms with an updated attention to systems and organizing. We will recognize, despite media messaging, that good people may participate in systems that deny our humanity. We will get to know each other, play games to warm up our connections and bodies, take a stab at making our work compelling, then create little “plays” for ourselves to rehearse social change. No theater or improv experience required! Participants should expect to join in exercises that include movement and speaking, though. YOU will decide which social justice issue(s) we will work on, so trigger warnings cannot be given at this time. Spots are limited.

Testimonial: “I’ve truly enjoyed being a part of something that explores humanity in a safe space”

Rochelle is a member of Off Script and Improv Alchemy improv troupes, and also an actor and conductor in local Playback Theatre. She is known for her kind and attentive, yet productive, facilitation of meetings and workshops.
