Greetings from the Lotus Institute Team. We are thinking of you and wondering how you are. We are so grateful for community and for our practice. We are in a precious, historic
moment of breakdown and breakthrough. Our stability and peace are powerful resources for embodied, wise action. There is a planetary virus out of control, entrenched racial injustice out of control, and ecological sustainability out of control. If we pay attention we can sense the growing momentum of the de-legitimization of colonial systems in our hearts, minds and structures of the modern world. At this very moment many of us are in survival physiology, with its driving energies of fear, flight and numbness rising worldwide. The challenge before us as change agents is to find deep equanimity in embracing this moment of deconstruction and reconstruction. Friends, the sutra on The Failings of the World offers teachings on the practice of being centered, grounded and fearless as we meet the eight worldly conditions of daily living. Which eight? Gain, loss, status, disgrace, censure, praise, pleasure and pain. These are the eight worldly conditions that spin after the world, and the world spins after these eight worldly conditions. Join me for a dharma talk and practice session with this Sutra on Wednesday, July 15. How We Can meet the Challenges of Authoritarianism
This is not our first rodeo with authoritarianism. Americans have collectively risen to seemingly impossible challenges in the past, and we can do so again. By Maria J. Stephan Analysis
