This week, Peace House joined dozens of other organizations in Oregon and across the United States in a joint letter urging US Senators to pass a resolution that would launch an investigation by the State Department on how the Israeli government’s military operations are harming people in Gaza — and whether its use of U.S. weapons is violating U.S. and International law.
The letter will be delivered late in the day January 12, 2024. An excerpt of the coalition letter is as follows:
We, the undersigned organizations, urge you to cosponsor and vote in favor of S.Res.504,
-Excerpt from Joint Letter from peace organizations to Senators
Senator Bernie Sanders’ resolution under Section 502B(c) of the Foreign Assistance Act (22
U.S.C. § 2304) requiring a report on Israel’s human rights practices and U.S. military aid to
Israel. After months of devastation in Gaza, there is urgent need for a meaningful debate on U.S.
support for Israeli operations in Gaza and the West Bank, including the extent to which U.S.
military aid may be supporting violations of international human rights and humanitarian law.
The exact date of the Senate vote on the matter has not been established, but we invite you, as people as conscience and US tax payers, to call on Senator Wyden to support the proposal, as Senator Merkeley has already taken a stand and cosponsored the Resolution.
To call Senator Ron Wyden, simply dial (202) 224-5244 and urge him to cosponsor and vote in favor of S.Res.504. This urgently needed resolution would provide overdue and crucially needed information about the scope of the U.S. role in the Israel-Gaza war.
