RE: The 28-year old Peace House “Uncle Food’s Diner” to-go meals for Food-Insecure Diner

The Peace House-sponsored Uncle Food’s Diner’s Tuesday hot meal will be operating four days a week, serving food to go for our food-insecure population until further notice.

Uncle Food’s Diner – Feeding the hungry in the Rogue Valley

The Diner was named “Uncle Food’s” by some teenagers when it was created to serve homeless teens in 1992. Since then the program has grown to serve an average of 120 people per week on Tuesdays, with a large cadre of volunteers from the Ashland community.

The revised Meal Plan for Uncle Food’s Diner increases the offering from one to four days a week until April 15 or longer. Peace House Director, Elizabeth V. Hallett and Chef Maren Faye of Maren Faye Catering are directing the meal plans in coordination with the Emergency Food Bank, the Food Angels, the Ashland Methodist Church and generous private donors.

NO privately cooked food will be used, due to current concerns over COVID-19 transmission. We are very thankful to our Peace House and Uncle Food’s Diner community, to our long-time volunteers and to our kitchen crew, which will be skeletal for the time being due to the down-scaled menu.

Distribution Hours are as follows:
Tuesday                4-5 pm
Wednesday           4-5 pm
Saturday               4-5 pm
Sunday                 4-5 pm

Sandwiches or pizza and stews with rice will be on the menu.
Food will be distributed outside Wesley (across from Briscoe School).
There will be trash cans for refuse.

Wesley Hall itself will only be open to the kitchen volunteers for modified food prep.
La Clinica’s mobile van will be in the Wesley Hall parking lot on Tuesdays until further notice.
They provide emergency health and dental care.
