Ringing in the New Year, Without an Empty Stomach

Like every week, the days between Christmas and New Years Day organizations in Ashland will provide food for people experiencing food insecurity. Amazing, grassroots efforts have afforded a network of organizations providing food for people in need, every day of the year. We congratulate the far-reaching work of the Ashland Community Food Bank, Food Angels, and Jobs with Justice Peace Meals. Every week, our organizations deepen the support for one another, and help coordinate services.

This New Years Eve, as people commemorate the countdown with friends and family, please consider supporting feeding people in our community. As an ally of the incredible Walk in the New Year Labyrinth event spanning through the 31st to New Years Day, Uncle Foods Diner has agreed to shift our program to accommodate an important, but different use of our regular kitchen.

To this end, we at Uncle Foods Diner continue our outreach to secure a few more donations of prepared casseroles, lasagnas, and salads for New Years Eve. We agreed to close up our kitchen for the day at the Methodist Church, and need larger community support. We anticipate a large group on this fifth Tuesday of December, when many people’s budgets have been exhausted by rising food prices and minimized benefits.

If you can make this one time donation – a frozen lasagna or a prepared dish for serving, please contact Kerul – at editor@peacehouse.net. And thank you for all that you do to support community programs helping to fill the gap while they bring in the new year.
