Six dedicated volunteers with the Rogue Liberation Library (RLL) sent out 220 packages – 660 books – to incarcerated people this January, breaking the group’s record for most parcels sent in one month. The work comes at a time when, according to correspondence with inmates, restrictions stemming from the Omicron variant of COVID have curtailed mobility and recreation time inside prisons. The increase in shipments and requests from prisoners underscore the need for more book donations, as well as financial contributions, for the project to thrive. With so many people stuck in isolated conditions and enduring lengthy lockdowns that confine prisoners to their cells except for bathing and essential communication, the books offer comfort and a needed diversion.

Please consider donating your gently-used paperback books to the Rogue Liberation Library so we can continue sending books to prisoners in need. Fiction and nonfiction paperback books in all subjects are welcome. Our most requested topics are: Fantasy, Science Fiction, Westerns, Thrillers, Self-Help, Small Business, Homesteading, Crochet, Drawing, and books by and about people of color, and LGBTQIA people. Donations may be dropped off at the Peace House in Ashland at 543 South Mountain Avenue in our outside donation box on the lower level.
