Sacred Walk to 2020 – Event News Release

Ashland’s 21st Annual Labyrinth Walk will take place December 31, 2019, 3:30 PM – 1:00 AM January 1, 2020 and from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM January 1, in Wesley Hall on the campus of Ashland First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St., Ashland, Oregon. Everyone is welcome to the nondenominational, interfaith event. The event is free, and donations are appreciated.

Elizabeth Austin, Labyrinth Facilitator and owner of the 36-ft. portable canvas labyrinth, describes Ashland’s Sacred Walk as unique in the world of Labyrinth Walks. “The event is co-created by volunteers including musicians, artists, sacred space designers, labyrinth angels and guardians, plus the many people who choose to include the Sacred Walk in their turn-of-the-year celebrations.  Together we continue to build this community celebration, creating a sacred space that expresses the values of peace, diversity, inclusivity, and personal freedom.”

Community Unfurling of the Labyrinth

The public is invited to participate in the Unfurling of the Labyrinth, 1 PM – 2 PM, December 30, in Wesley Hall at the First United Methodist Church, 175 N Main St, Ashland, OR 97520. This is a unique opportunity to learn about labyrinths and to assist in the unfolding of the three-piece, four-quadrant 110-lb. canvas replica of the labyrinth in Chartres Cathedral in France.

Partner in Global Healing Wave of Forgiveness

Ashland Sacred Walk to 2020 is pleased to partner with the Australian Labyrinth Network to create the Global Healing Wave of Forgiveness. Everyone is invited to hold the vision of consciously entering the next decade with a lighter heart and a focus on personal and collective forgiveness. Participants will be joining  people around the world in repeating the ancient Hawaiian prayer “Ho’oponopono” while walking the labyrinth as the year turns. The Wave will cross the time zones around the globe, beginning in New Zealand on New Year’s Eve and ending in Hawaii on New Year’s Day.

Additions

Cassandra Wass has joined the Ashland’s Sacred Walk as the Media/Creative Coordinator, enlivening the event’s presence and expanding public awareness.

Traditionally, Ashland’s Sacred Walk to the New Year has featured altars dedicated to the four directions as well as the divine feminine and the divine masculine. This year two new altars are being added: the first honoring “Childhood,” and the second an interactive installation saluting “Community.” Members of the public are invited to contribute small objects, pictures and items from nature to adorn the altar and enrich our celebration of the community we are creating together. (Note: Owners of items should retrieve them before the labyrinth closes at 6 p.m. on January 1.)

Another new element is a special time set aside for “Families and Children,” with Sherman the Puppet and his friend, Dorita Borgeson, at 2 PM January 1.
