Southern Oregon Candidates tackle climate and environment

8/13/2020

Despite COVID-19 and the current social turmoil, climate and environment remain dominant issues of concern for Southern Oregonian voters. In the era of coronavirus concern and social distancing, it has been impossible during this election cycle for Southern Oregon Climate Action Now to schedule its customary series of public forums (fora) for candidates seeking to represent Southern Oregon in the state legislature or on County Boards of Commissioners.
However, In the spirit of the moment, SOCAN invited all candidates across Jackson, Josephine, and Curry Counties seeking state legislative Senate and House seats or County Commission seats in the forthcoming General Election to participate individually in a brief virtual interview on issues relating to climate and the environment. To assure fairness and relevance, different sets of questions were developed for state legislature candidates and commission candidates, all candidates for any race were asked exactly the same question, and questions were provided to candidates seven days ahead of the scheduled interviews. The unedited interviews are available on the SOCAN website at
socan.eco/2020-interviews.
Constituents wishing to learn where candidates stand on climate and environmental issues may visit the site to watch the interviews.
