My name is Eran Efrati, I am Jewish, a veteran of the Israeli Defense Forces, and a 7th generation Jerusalemite.
What I’ve seen in Israel over the last few weeks was already beyond anything I had witnessed in my life – even before the ground invasion of Gaza began.
I’ve seen terrified Palestinian children in Hebron and Halhul, sitting on the ruins of their homes. I’ve seen mobs in the street chanting “death to Arabs,” and soldiers lined up at the Gaza border, primed for the invasion which began Thursday.
And as much as it pains me to say it, I don’t think I can do a lot about it.
But I believe you can.
Send a message to your Congressional Representatives and make sure they know you oppose this invasion.
American voices – and especially Jewish voices – are probably the most critical voices in the world right now.
We need you to be as loud as you can saying you can’t support this invasion. That you can’t support human rights violations. That you can’t support the idea that Jewish lives matter more than Palestinian lives.
Before the ground invasion began, 45,000 people already signed Jewish Voice for Peace’s Open Letter calling for an end to this system of violence.
But now we have to step up even more – way more. Take the next step now:
Send a message to your Congressional Reps today.
This is a war of choice for the Israeli government. It’s about punishing Palestinian civilians and finding an outlet for hatred and fear that is exploding out from Israeli society. It’s about making sure that no matter how much Israeli politicians talk about peace, an actual resolution will remain impossible.
In Israel, Jewish values of equality and justice are being replaced with an ethic of vengeance. And I don’t think we can stop it from within.
But I think you can.
Please join me and make sure they can hear you in DC and far beyond:
We oppose the invasion, the bloodshed, the privileging of Jewish lives over others lives.
We want justice for all, and won’t stop until that happens.
