Unmasking the Housing Crisis: Part 2

Families with Children: Solutions with Dignity

An organization in Portland is addressing the housing crisis in Oregon, one family at a time while also supporting individual dignity and using trauma-informed design in their facilities. For this week’s segment of Unmasking the Housing Crisis, we invite you to check out this article that features the organization, called Path Home, and offers a glimpse into to their method and founder.

An important note within this coverage is the sad statistic that out of all 50 states, Oregon has the highest concentration of families with children living without a home. According to John Tapogna of EcoNorthwest, this is rooted in the rising cost of housing, combined with personal circumstances, as reported on OregonLive.com

This article follows last week feature that pointed people to watch “United States of Tents.” The film examines at the causes, conditions, and emerging alternatives to a housing crisis plaguing the US.

“There is so much debate on the principal driver of homelessness,” Tapogna said. “Is it personal circumstance or the housing market? Incidence of homelessness are highest in areas where difficult personal circumstances intersect with a challenging housing market.”

We hope you will take the time to consider the alternative that Path Home has embraced, as we continue this learning journey together. Stay tuned for an invitation to engage in a compassionate community discussion to help bolster local efforts underway to address the crisis in Southern Oregon.
