Timetable: 11 AM – Welcome, open walk, spoken word & music; I PM – Dedication of “Walk as One At 1- 2 PM Closing
On Saturday, May 4, 2024, you are invited to join thousands of people across the planet to “Walk as One at 1” during the sixteenth annual World Labyrinth Day, when labyrinth walkers will be creating a rolling wave of peaceful energy passing from one time zone to the next across the globe.
Trinity Episcopal Church invites everyone to Trinity Garden Labyrinth, 44 N. Second Street, for the free nondenominational event from 11 AM – 2 PM. No registration is required. Veriditas-trained Labyrinth Facilitators Sara Hopkins (Trinity Episcopal Church) and Elizabeth Austin (Ashland United Methodist Church) will facilitate, offering information and guidance to assist everyone in the labyrinth experience.
Whether you are familiar with labyrinths or new to the idea of labyrinth paths, all are welcome (including children under 12 when accompanied by a parent or guardian), to learn more and take part. Local co-sponsors are Anima Mundi Productions, Ashland United Methodist Church, Dromenon: Inner Pilgrimages for Modern Times, Peace House, and Peace Village Festival.
“In this time of war and destruction we often ask ourselves “What can we do?” One of the actions we can take is joining with friends and neighbors with a single intention to create a rolling wave of peaceful energy. It is a positive step forward taken in love. Come with us on this journey and walk,” invites Sara Hopkins, convener and facilitator of Ashland’s World Labyrinth Day event.
“Joining the World Labyrinth Day this year is especially meaningful in Ashland, where we have celebrated each New Year with a community labyrinth walk for 25 years,” says Elizabeth Austin, founding facilitator of Ashland’s Sacred Walk to New Year and Dromenon Project. “As we “Walk as One at 1,” we join as community in a worldwide walking meditation, a profound and worthwhile action.”
International celebrations will include individual walks, local community celebrations, and worldwide connections through online events and social media. Existing labyrinths will be visited, and new temporary or permanent labyrinths will be built. Visit here to watch a video representing over 80 locations of the 2023 World Labyrinth Day event.
Labyrinths have a long history, dating back thousands of years. The Trinity Garden Labyrinth is the medieval style pattern developed in the 13th Century. World Labyrinth Day is an international event held on the first Saturday each May, sponsored by The Labyrinth Society in collaboration with partner organizations including the Australian Labyrinth Network, Legacy Labyrinth Project, and Veriditas.
Labyrinths are found throughout the world with the oldest dating back thousands of years. In contemporary use, labyrinths provide an opportunity for personal reflection, spiritual practice, or the reduction of stress in many different public and private settings. According to historians, whenever and wherever society is going through rapid change and development, the labyrinth has blossomed. In our modern time, the labyrinth offers a calm and powerful meditative path in our uncertain world.
